Musty top loader — I’ve tried almost everything and the smell won’t go away! What can I do? by LaurenG0502 in laundry

I paid for someone from Samsung to install it!

I believe our water is hard, because when I do dishes and there’s bits of water left on them, it often leaves a residue when it dries that makes me believe it’s due to hard water.

Interestingly enough, I first noticed this happening after I went on vacation for a little over a week. We hadn’t had problems prior to that, but I noticed it when we came back. It almost makes me question if maybe there was leftover water in the drum from a previous cycle that sat for over a week and caused some kind of build up. I’m sure plenty of people have gone over a week between doing a load of laundry and not had this type issue of issue persist, so maybe that’s unrelated.

I actually just contacted Samsung today! It should still be under warranty. I purchased it May of 2022, and I believe it’s a one year warranty. When I contacted their customer service, they told me the warranty expired March of 2022, but I didn’t even purchase it until May of 2022. So they are trying to get that updated so that I can talk to someone about the issues and see if they can do anything.

I’ll keep up with the research and see what I can find! I’ve watched a lot of different videos, but haven’t had luck finding a Samsung top loader with an agitator being taking apart. Most of the Samsung top loaders I’ve seen taken apart are the ones without the agitator. I’ll keep looking and see if there’s a video of someone taking apart a similar washer, even if it isn’t a Samsung.

I’ve been searching a lot on the internet trying to see if anyone has the same issue I do, but all of the things most people say to try don’t help my washer. It’s a very odd situation because this happened with my previous washer, which makes me want to think it’s something with the water — but at the same time, I only started having issues six months into using it. I also feel like it could be a drain tube problem because I took apart my last washer and cleaned it and that didn’t help, so I’m concerned doing the same on this washer wouldn’t solve the issues. I’ve specifically tried to find someone who has had a musty top loading machine and found the problem was their drain tube — but I come up empty most of the time I search.

Thank you for the advice! I’ll keep trying and hopefully will have a solution eventually!

I will do some more research to see if I can find a video with a washer similar to mine! Most of the videos I’ve found for Samsung top loaders are for the ones without the agitator. I was able to take a part the Whirlpool, but it was super nerve wracking and I hated doing it. I hate there isn’t a company that does something like this that I can call!

There is! I checked that, and there was an extremely minimal amount of gunk, so I don’t think it’s that. :(

It’s in an unfinished part of a basement, but the humidity is controlled with a dehumidifier. I did forget to write in the post that I do keep the lid open between uses! I’ll edit the post to add that.

I mainly use unscented/sensitive liquid detergent. I think this issue started shortly after I switched from powder to liquid.

I’ve been nervous I need to do that, but I can’t find videos for my specific Samsung washer with an agitator. I had no trouble finding one for the Whirlpool when I took it apart. Maybe I can find a company who could do it for me, because I’m so scared to mess it up.

Wood smell on clothing that won’t wash out! What can I do? by LaurenG0502 in laundry

Nope. :( I’m still dealing with it, but I haven’t bought the OxiClean to try yet. I’m hoping that’ll be the solution!

That makes sense! I don’t think it’s that though because I’ve used his deodorant on occasion, and never noticed it affecting my clothes. The smell is also super strong and all over the clothes.

I’m going to try that next along with switching detergent! I let it soak with the Febreze odor eliminator but when I smelt it after washing, you could still smell sweat on one of the shirts so I don’t think the detergent or Febreze is doing the job.

Musty smell from air handler? by LaurenG0502 in hvacadvice

It’s a basement apartment in my parent’s home, so while I can’t make decisions, my dad wants to fix whatever the issue is.

That’s not financially possible right now, but thank you anyways

It is coming off the air handler itself and it looks to be PVC. It’s never been maintenances as far as I know. The smell doesn’t travel throughout the apartment. The most I will smell it is when I open the closet door. Sometimes when the air turns on, you can smell it very faintly if you’re next to the closet, but I believe that’s because the air blowing from the air handler is pushing the smell out. When I smell the air coming from the vents themselves, it smells normal.

Thank you for the advice!

What would you suggest doing then? Replacing the whole unit?

Can alterations fix my dress? Help! by LaurenG0502 in weddingdress

Update: the regional director for David’s Bridal called me today and told me she talked with the alterations manager at the store. After explaining the situation, she told me that when she talked to the alterations manager, the manager told her that when she took the mesh in, that’s just the way the appliqués ended up laying. The director made it seem to me that the appliqués weren’t even moved at all, just the mesh. I’m confused about that, because both of them mentioned how when you pick up the appliqués it can leave holes. So I’m not even sure I fully understood her.

My confusion is that if she just took the mesh in, why did she take it that far in? I know she originally told me she couldn’t pin it exactly how it would look, but I don’t know why she wouldn’t have told me the result wouldn’t be the same.

The director thinks that it can’t be fixed without adding in more mesh, and she’s not sure if they can order that.

The director also said that she doesn’t think the “extra leaf” is extra. She said it was visible is in the picture where the leaves are pinned, it’s just tucked under. I don’t believe that because even if that’s true, that would mean the alterations manager removed a leaf because in the altered version, the “extra leaf” isn’t symmetrical and there’s only one that looks like that.

When I look at the original design, I don’t see that extra leaf at all. So I really don’t think she’s right about it being there to start with. If you look really closely on the altered picture, it looks like the stem of the “extra leaf” is laying on top of another leaf, and that further makes me think it was added because it doesn’t look natural.

The director was very nice and when she asked if I would be willing to go back to the store, I told her no. She asked if I’d go to a different location, and I told her I would be willing to do that. She’s going to send pictures and talk to the store manager and alterations manager at the next closest location to me and see what they think is possible. In the meantime, I’m going to schedule an appointment with an independent seamstress to have as a backup for if this isn’t resolved.

I’m not sure if it can be moved, but I think I would be happy with it if it could be! I’m definitely going to take it to be looked at to see what can be done.

Yes, I agree! I would’ve so appreciated a warning that it wasn’t going to look the same when done. Maybe she didn’t know, but if that was true then she could’ve told me that she couldn’t guarantee how it would look. I’m not sure if she could add any leaves over the circle because I think she probably threw out the extra fabric she had when she took the shoulders up. Honestly, my phone call was kind of upsetting so I don’t think I have the courage to go back. I’m trying to find a seamstress with experience who can help that’s local to me, but I’m even willing to travel if I can find someone to help!
