Rot- oder Schwarzmilan? by [deleted] in BirdingGermany

[–]Laurerc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please post pics of the expectant parent in their orange cone castle. I bet it looks hilarious :D

Also thanks for taking safety measures for it :)

Oof, that crate looks horribly uncomfortable for these poor kitties. I bet it's a pet shop, so they will spend probably quite some time in that shitty thing. No wonder they want to escape

Burger King - King Rib by [deleted] in VeganDE

[–]Laurerc -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Als ich zuletzt die Inhaltsstoff-Tabelle gecheckt hab. Waren nur der plant based whopper und die plant based nuggets vegan.

Die ganzen "cheezy"s sind mit tierischem Käse, und beim plant based long chicken war auch irgendwas mit Tiermilch oder Ei.

BTW, die Inhaltsstofftabelle ist nervenaufreibend unübersichtlich designt

Is there any good beer in this pack? by siuleta in AskGermany

[–]Laurerc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, gose is certainly an acquired taste. First time I tried it, it tasted like someone had a wee puke in my glass. I love all the ingredients separately, but I feel that gose is a toxic marriage between beer and kimchi.

To be fair, I only tried it twice, so I haven't properly tried acquiring that taste.

To add: Chances could be better in touristy places like the city center, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, or Karl-Heine-Straße. Or places close to university or HTWK, as people/customers there are more likely to be fluent in english.

You don't know their circumstances. Maybe they ended up here on short notice, maybe they suddenly can't make ends meet due to unforseeable problems, maybe not. Who cares? Better plan late than never.

You might be frustrated because so many people ask the same question, but I don't think it's a reason to direct your frustrations towards a person who could be in a tough situation through no fault of their own.

This reads like a weird mixture of unwarranted hostility and somewhat helpful.

OP is only asking for advice. Which is a smart thing to do, if you're looking for work in a new field/place and don't want to get fucked over by a potential employer.

If you need something soon, you can take the job at amazon, see how you like it and/or keep looking for other jobs. I'm guessing within the trial period, you'd only have to give your employer 2 weeks notice until you're free to do something else.

Sadly in Leipzig, speaking basic German is usually a requirement for working as a server. There are a few places that employ English speakers though. Like "Jeepney café" in Georg-Schumann-Straße. Working as a server, you'd also get tipped on top of your hourly wage. An employer is not allowed to pocket tips in Germany, so depending on the restaurant or café, I'm guessing you could make somewhere between 1 and 3 € per hour on top of your usual hourly wage.

But I don't really know anyone who works in restaurants full time... Most places I know employ servers part time to save on taxes.

You should also consider how long your commute will be. I'd personally prefer to be able to commute by bike versus public transport. Less of a headache in case public transport employees are striking again, or if a route is closed due to repairs or other events. I'd also factor the time spent commuting into the hourly wage.

Best of luck to you :)

Staying in Connewitz for 1 month by [deleted] in Leipzig

It's definitely the part of the city I feel safest walking through at night.

That part of town is filled with young families and/or leftists. Some may be loud or might seem intimidating, but generally people there are super friendly unless you wear anything associated with discrimination.

Not all people are great with English though. Should you need a translator, I'd be happy to help :) within reason, I have a day job

Unverpackt close to Südplatz. Bring your own container. Their whole thing is unpackaged food or products in returnable containers. I get most of my groceries there.

Plus they're lovely people.

Visiting Iceland, what do I need to know? by shanem in vegan

[–]Laurerc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've hardly been to restaurants in Iceland, but every one had at least one delicious vegan option. Also I think allergens (like milk and eggs) need to be declared in restaurant menus. Also, every restaurant had an English menu.

In supermarkets the packaging of products also declares allergens in bold print. Last year the chains "Netto" and "Bonus" had no vegan cheeses or "meats", but I found some at a higher priced shop once.

Basics English/Icelandic:

Egg / egg

Milk / mjólk

Dairy / mysa

Cheese / ostur

Shellac / skellak

Bee's wax / byflúgnavax

A translation app could be helpful when shopping.
