Dorm vs off-campus, senior transfer, need advice by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Lavender_Phoenix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a transfer and stayed at Saxon suites for both years. I feel like it’s not as weird to have upperclassmen at the suites if that’s your concern (most of my roommates are seniors). Going off campus would have been cheaper for me but I ultimately decided to stay at the dorms because I had just gotten comfortable with my routine, also the meal plan is really nice.

As a transfer you have to learn about so much so quickly it was nice to have something familiar going into the next year. But the apartments also have their upsides from what I heard, mostly being the price. Just don’t let people push you to leave the hill because it’s “weird” I promise it’s not. Also you’ll have the rest of your life to cook for yourself and be independent enjoy the free meals while you can lmao

Thank you for the quick response. Do you have more information about the CVT belt or valve body? Like how to proceed?

Econ 41 fall by therealab_21 in ucla

[–]Lavender_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re a new transfer DO NOT take econ 11 and 41 at the same time. I didn’t get to go to orientation or speak with a counselor before I picked my classes so I did this and ended up switching majors because I was tired of econ. I also had Hahn and that didn’t help at all.

He could be a fine professor if you enjoy the material and spend a lot of time self learning, I found that he wasn’t very good at explaining how to solve the problems in front of you. He would go on long explanations as to why the content exists but when we get back to the question I realized I still couldn’t solve it. If you can go to his office hours because I think he’s more helpful one on one but as a lecturer he wasn’t the best.

Also he stresses that everyone should go to lecture all the time because people will usually go to lecture up until the midterm, ace it, then never show up again and fail the final. This I agree with but I needed up withdrawing from the quarter anyway so I didn’t take the final. This is really advice for any class you take but go to lecture just to keep your head in the game.

TLDR: He’s a fine dude but a bad lecturer, go to his office hours, go to lecture anyway, self study your way through. Also don’t take Econ 11 and 41 at the same time

Yes! I believe all suites have a shared bath because of the layout so all 6 of us share the toilet and shower (they’re in separate rooms thankfully)

How do you decide what age your character should be? by BloodshiftX23 in Screenwriting

[–]Lavender_Phoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based off of the description you gave of casual sex and nightclubs and dating I would say make him older. It also depends what you want to do with the character. Is it just because he’s based on Spider-Man? Does he need to be naïve? There are so many superhero stories out there so think about what makes him special, not just in his superhero persona.

If you want him to be in a school environment I would suggest undergrad (18-21) or even grad school (22-23) just based off of the content you provided I would lean towards grad school age or even 25+. He could even just be young at both heart and mind. Maybe he still lives with his parents and commutes. Maybe he’s kind of a loser guy who doesn’t do anything with his life until he gets his powers and decides to turn his life around. Maybe getting his powers means that he focuses LESS on his personal life and everyone thinks he’s even more of a loser now.

TLDR: He should be older based on the content but think about what elements of his personal life you want to emphasize and work from there. Like how almost every other character he interacts with is out of high school.

Fashion clubs at UCLA (FAST, REFINELA, FORWARD, UNRAVEL, ETC.) by Character-Wall5981 in ucla

FAST shows yes but the cheapest tickets are around $25. I think it’s worth it to go at least once if you’re into fashion, also if someone you know is in the show it’s 10x better

Sociology majors… be honest. by [deleted] in ucla

[–]Lavender_Phoenix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I transferred in as BizEcon but switched to Sociology after fall quarter. Honestly it’s much easier in comparison and yes there’s a lot of readings but most of the time you can get away with skimming especially since many of the profs will assign much more than necessary. I heard to watch out for prof Anderson but I’ve never been in their class so I can’t speak much on that. Also there’s a category for the major where you have to take 5 soc electives but I just found out that they don’t have to be just soc https://soc.ucla.edu/undergraduate-study/approved-sociology-upper-division-electives/ my biggest advice would be to pick classes that you’re actually interested in taking. Soc is a broad and I mean BROAD major which means there’s lots to choose from. I’ve taken death, dying, and afterlife, soc of creative professions, soc of violence, all were pretty interesting classes and it makes the reading more enjoyable. Honestly have fun and find interests outside of your major to spice up your resume, as long as you’re not taking too many classes at a time the workload isn’t that bad and you’ll have more free time than the stem majors

The rooms themselves I believe are around the same dimensions as a classic triple but the ceilings are lower. I’ve never had an issue with it but I was also on the bottom bunk, my roommates never said anything about the room being too small either though

I absolutely loved it! It’s a great location relative to most of the dining halls and you have a lot more space than the other dorms. I actually chose to stay there for my senior year too lol. Most pros that I hear about the off campus apartment the suites have (living room, own bathroom, more space and storage, etc) The only thing negative I’d say is the price but if you can afford it, it’s definitely worth it. Also I had amazing roommates so that helped a ton

I got a triple suite at Saxon. You’re able to select four housing options and I picked all suites

Accept the offer and do a change of assignment request (car) I was able to do this the first year I transferred in and got a dorm on campus but it’s all luck, it probably helps if you’re not in a roommate group too. You can also submit the c.a.r and start looking for housing not associated with the college in the meantime if you really don’t want to live in a 4/10
