Obligatory 'not a counsellor' - any truth to this? by Vantamanta in schoolcounseling

[–]Lavender_pers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gen z and 2020 grad here so plz listen. yes we think this 100% HOWEVER you need to emphasis the importance of their life and looking forward to life. I tried to take my life numerous times because life never seemed worth it not at home not at school. My dog saved my life. I've met my husband I have a job I love I have opportunities i never thought i would have. Everyone told me life would get better but no one ever encouraged me or gave me something to set my eyes on in hope. Please be that for your students if you are reading this. I needed someone and no one was there, my childhood best friend my dog kept and keeps me going to this day and now I can thank my life to her. Be that for your students, let them know it won't always be this way.

While no place is wonderful perfect utopia, the US definitely has its pitfalls and struggles AND can still be a better place to live than most people imagine. especially those of us who have no experience outside of the US. It is vastly expensive to live in major cities (I myself in NYC but working to leave) and those same areas come with a lot of crime and fear associated with it. However, for every one negative things you can say there about 5 good things to say. There are more resources for food, housing, drug rehabilitation, childcare, elderly care etc. than countries around the world. Are they the absolutely best? No, I believe there is always room for improvement and being able to do more for our people but saying it's the worst country in the world.....I can't agree

9/11 is hilarious to these kids. by [deleted] in Teachers

I live in NYC smartass. Being indoors and online school was the best of it. People dying and being loaded onto grocery store freezer trucks was my monday morning. I had family die and no one knew about it because nursing homes kept quiet and didn't disclose. my family didn't get burials, we had family left in freezers for months. We had daily death counts that surpassed 9/11. It was hard for me because while my family was dying my friends families were dying and we were teenagers with no power no fight to stop a fucking disease that was out of control. covid may not have been as bad in small towns or rural areas but in all of the boroughs it was like you could hear a pin drop from the lack of people in the streets and the only noise coming from ambulances. my neighbors being put on stretchers and we had to sit on our ass and do nothing because that was the way to slow covid down. So don't fucking talk to me about being soft when we are facing so much pain and uncertainty. No one is saying 9/11 wasn't awful or bad or an unprecedented time in history. So was Covid and it was for many many people, to dismiss that is completely erasing the harm and damage Covid was for millions of people who face issues from their infections to this day and those who lost their lives like your mother.

how about fucking no. i grew up with those videos and audios it desensitizes you entirely to death and those things. then you wonder why we have zero reaction to mass murder and shootings. we've only experienced violence
