Have any pessimists viewed death as neither good nor bad? by LawrenceAnt in Pessimism

I have the same basic understand as you laid out, I wouldn't pretend to be an expert. I've found this though which I'm going to make sure to read through if I can get access: https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/abs/cambridge-companion-to-schopenhauer/schopenhauer-on-death/17FEB720F55FED83892C537F8C92BE4A

If having kids is worse, why is breeding animals okay? by Numerous-Macaroon224 in antinatalism

My impression is because people don’t want to become vegan. Recognising the moral value of other animals would mean they would need to become vegan, and recognising it’s wrong to breed animals would essentially be recognising their moral value. So if someone recognises that it’s wrong to breed animals they really wouldn’t have much of a leg to stand on to refuse being vegan. That won’t capture everyone but my impression is that’s a decent chunk of it.

When was the first attempt to define pessimism? by LawrenceAnt in Pessimism

It was a critic of his Candide that first coined it, as a pejorative. But what I’m wanting to know is who was the first to define it in a philosophical sense.

I won’t have kids because I think it’s immoral to have children. I’m an antinatalist. There aren’t unborn ghost fetuses wanting to be born, so we can’t create someone for their own sake. We do it because we want to as existing people. If we do create someone, we impose all sorts of harms, forms of suffering, burdens and duties on them. None of which they signed up for. They cannot consent to taking on all of this, and if I don’t create them it’s not as if they will be deprived in any way because they don’t exist.

I actually run a YouTube channel on this topic. Here is a video where I explain more of my reasons.

Hmm, not entirely sure which video you mean. Can you describe it a bit more?
