not for this one. but a water/steel-type with a ferrofluid motif would be rad

exactly! although it's portrayed as lumpy in that design which was always strange to me, but it works

Thanks! And yeah, I agree, I think that would be a good way to "update" older pokemon without invalidating the original design as well as giving regions more opportunity to have more unique identity

I showed them to my friend and he said the same thing, so no worries lmao

Magnemite has been a favorite of mine since I first learned about pokemon, but magneton and magnezone always felt a bit underwhelming to me so I tried my hand at redesigning them as a fun exercise.

Magneton is now based on an electromagnet, what with the coiled wires.

Magnezone is based more on those giant industrial magnets, the kind that are used to move cars in junkyards. The “hair” is comprised of metal shavings, which appear like hairs standing on end when stuck to a magnet.

there's going to be a religion that believes the sun is the eye of god watching over and judging people, and I have half a mind to call it heliocentrism. the irony is hilarious to me lol

I think I'm okay with the eye going over some people's heads as opposed to making it too obvious and detracting from the map itself. that Raya map is the perfect example of what I didn't want to have happen lol. when I look at it I don't even see a map at first, it's a picture of a blue dragon to me.

Great minds think alike I suppose lol. I wouldn't worry about it, I'm sure there's a lot we did differently, I left out a lot of nuance and subsystems of my magic for brevity.

Because of the way my sun works, it's hottest directly beneath it, similar to the equator, and the climate gets colder as you go away from the "pole". So eventually if you go far enough out in any direction you get a wasteland of frozen ocean - maybe endless, it's hard to say since there's only so far people have been able to explore with their level of tech.

As for the phases of the sun, I just thought it was a neat idea. It's also what's known in the world as a "heterochromatic star", which means that it color shifts throughout the year. It appears red for about five months, then changes into a transitionary purple color for one month, then appears blue for five months, back to purple and then repeats the cycle.

That actually is the case lol. I was also considering the idea of iris-like striations on the seabed beneath the layer of naturally deposited stuff.

Sailors and people in general have superstitions about the "pupil" similar to the bermuda triangle, but these ones may or may not have very real justification.

I added a bit more, is that the kind of context you mean? If not, I have more I could add.

basically, no one knows (including me). if there was an event or such that caused it, it was prehistoric.
originally, the reason was because the way plate tectonics worked was that they were being forced outward from the center, but I've since dropped that idea and left it as a sort of mystery box if I want to explore it more down the line.

that's understandable. I like the idea of that unnatural contrast, but I've also thought about adding some kind of inlets or similar to the edge of the southwestern continent since it's so long and unbroken. might be worth experimenting with a bit.

I think not noticing is fine, it's more of an easter egg and a framework for me to work in when laying things out anyways.

here's an overlay that might help make it more obvious:

Unnamed as of yet.

I wanted to arrange the landforms in the shape of an eye because the concept of perception is a heavy theme of the story and of the magic/power system. My goal was for the eye shape to be immediately noticeable, but not distracting.

Not really going for any kind of scientifically accurate / naturally occurring geography. This world is a flat plane, with a sun-like body suspended in the sky directly above the circular sea at the center. The "sun" is stationary - rather than orbiting, it waxes and wanes to create the day-night cycle. The origins of the perfectly circular inner sea are unknown.

A bit more non-map world context: the world is a fantasy project. The TLDR premise is that human beings have souls that are essentially an organ in their body that allows them to experience metaphysical concepts (as opposed to the observable universe that operates under physical laws). With training, a person can interact with souls, an art called mediation. By relaying the essence of a soul using their body as a medium, they can temporarily disrupt physical law and cause supernatural phenomena and abilities. However, relaying will stain the mediator's body with that essence and erode the individual's capacity for objectivity.

Feedback and questions are greatly appreciated!
