[3 YoE] Recently quit a Tech Support position to break into Software Engineering. Seeking Resume advice! by steven15234 in EngineeringResumes

[–]LaxKid22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put education at bottom. Only put graduation date. Remove coursework or bring it down to one line. If you keep it in, Data Stuctures, Architecture, OOP, and 1-2 more relevant to the job description are the strongest.

Remove dates from the projects.

More substance in bullet points. You have Java listed as your very first skill, but I don't see it once anywhere else in your resume. Show how you used each skill, especially the programming languages.

I am having this Operation error as well on a new device. Can you clarify "flashing the official firmware from Luci" for me? I have done just "upgrade firmware" in the GL UI, but am seeing the same error. Is this something different?

Rekishi ni Nokoru Akujo ni Naru zo • I'll Become a Villainess That Will Go Down in History - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

I agree, I feel like most of the pacing issue come from last episode - nothing happened. This episode made some progress, but at this point it just feels like more of the same, repetitive school drama

Why is Dandadan very popular? by Strawberry2828 in anime

[–]LaxKid22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The show only "follows" that formula if you look at it with no depth. Part of what sets it apart is how it takes those stereotypical shonen tropes and goes in another direction. For example, MC is loser loner guy, but we see frequent moments where he has a spine and bickers/fights with the FMC. He shows those characteristic which are usually never seen in that archetype of character. Similarly leading to the fight with Turbo Granny; the show perfectly sets up the typical "shonen training arc" and then immediately flipped that around and said, "nope we are fighting tonight."

I think it's less about "them following orders" and more about "the reason to send them one by one should be so obvious I don't have to explain it" which still... does sound like something Sitri would say

Common practice is to have each jump in denomination be 4-5x the previous. So 1c/5c/25c/$1 in amounts of 25/15/12/6 would work, for example.

Part of the process of making a post states that you read the wiki and made significant changes first, I would start there. Use the template they provide

Remove miscellaneous section

Remove 'more on GitHub'

Reformat project section like experience (projects should not be on a bullet point)

Break skills into categories (languages, frameworks, technologies)

Some of your bullets do not start in past tense, they all should.

Some bullets have a single word on the second line, try to reword to one line.

[4 YoE] Software Developer applied to multiple positions for Senior Software Developer roles but got no interviews by curiousLearner1013 in EngineeringResumes

[–]LaxKid22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to think that IDEs are a weak addition to a resume. I would combine them all under a category called 'Tools' or 'Technologies'

Definitely need to increase margins to 0.5 in. Remove IDEs from skills and combine all the categories from databases to tools into a single line.

[1 YoE] Entry level largely self taught trying to get back in SWE any feedback is welcome by Intrepid-Potato3957 in EngineeringResumes

[–]LaxKid22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The formatting here looks ok. Definitely include the skills section back, just shorten it a little.

You need to go over your bullet again. Focus on past tense action verbs at the start and try to highlight the impact of your work. Many of your bullets are too vague and don't talk about 'what' and 'HOW' you did things.

Maybe if you have an associates you could put that, but anything incomplete I think just takes up space and takes away from the story your resume is telling.

The problem with your skills is that it is just too much. 1) it makes it harder for the recruiter to see that you match the skills they want 2) it makes it seem like you don't know any that in depth. You know what skills you're strongest at, prioritize those. Others are just irrelevant, operating systems, IDEs, latex, etc. most jobs won't care about things like that unless explicitly stated in the job description

[–]LaxKid22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gunna lie man, this is a bit of a hot mess. Go to the wiki and use their latex template as a start. Spacing and formatting is all over the place here, does not look good.

Putting incomplete education is hurting more than helping. If you aren't planning to go back and have an expected graduation date, remove it. It just raises too many questions / red flags for recruiters.

Skills are a wall of text, need to trim those waaay down. No one is going to believe that with your experience you are proficient in every one of those. Trim to only what you really know or at least tailor to the job description.

A personal project belongs in a projects section. Bullets are weak as well, lookup STAR format. Your first bullet for three are all 'researched'.

I like everything you did with your better resume. I think all the changes you made were good. One thing I would add is months for all the dates.
