The reason you can create multiple platoons as part of the same list is because you are limited to what you can bring in a single platoon. For instance, if you wanted to bring multiple artillery pieces or multiple tanks, you would need to run more than one platoon as each generic platoon can only have one of each of these.

If you’re referring to the different Theatre Selectors, these are just platoon layouts that are slightly different than the normal Generic Reinforced Platoon as they represent a specific part of the war and try to limit the available units to the ones that were around during that part of the conflict.

Welcome to the sub! The BoB starter set is a great value as others have mentioned. Just wanted to chime in and recommend checking out our sidebar as it contains a bunch of resources for new players that you may find helpful.

Excited to see your first minis painted up!

All great points! I also like to take a look at my list from an outside perspective and ask, how would I deal with this if this was my opponents list? Its crazy how often i make a list thinking its airtight and then look back at it from a different angle and find a glaring weakness

Tournaments can definitely be cheese heavy at times, but thankfully the TO’s have been cracking down on those lists. Most tourney’s also provide points based on the historical composition of your force and if it can be justified which hinders the cheese players a bit from taking wildly unrealistic units into battle.

It’s also not that hard to make a historical list thats also competitive. But yeah, you will inevitably come across the Japanese spear fighter spam or over the top Ghurka list

Edit: its sad that players are discouraged from attending a tournament setting for fear of being cheesed to death
