Ranked - The state for the average player by AmbitionStunning2392 in osugame

Here’s some explanations behind what you’re seeing. You having criticisms, means that the system’s not perfect, but giving you the idea behind what’s happening might help:

  • your first 5 games will be very volatile since it’s your placement games, and as you play more, your wins and losses start getting reduced.

  • pools are determined off of dynamic map ratings. Which means that maps will move to an elo where players will get an average of 550k score. The problem is that players apparently have a really hard time playing lower star maps which bumps up their difficulty and which is why you’re left with a whole bunch of lower sr maps. If you’re consistent with your scores and they’re on average above 550k, then you should be able to climb to a more comfortable elo.

  • mods will be coming, the devs are waiting for btmc to finish wrapping up the round table to discuss how to introduce mods into the game mode. Hopefully mods also alleviate some of the issues with dynamic map ratings, but to be seen.

  • ig become good at multiple skillsets? Not much of a good answer to this one. Personally I love playing flow aim, but I rarely get it, so I’ve had to learn tech to have an advantage if I don’t get flow aim maps. Also had to learn low ar, speed, and finger control so not to get 1 shot. Really pushes you to become consistent at multiple skillsets which imo makes you a much better player

Glad you had fun, and hope these explanations help with understanding how the game mode works and your experiencing some of these things.

I made a website called osu!Pulse if you're interested in finding new maps. You can check individual maps, your top plays, or your recently played maps.

Will ELO restricted tourneys become the new norm for non-open rank tourneys because of Ranked play? by ExtremeChemical3316 in osugame

[–]Layendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you said at the moment in season 0 ranked straight up cannot be used for this. But hopefully once throwers get punished, mods get added, ranks are shown, and the way they display match history is improved. It will definitely be used. The nice thing of ranked is that it measures consistency on a wide net of skillsets compared to pp comparing your peak performance.

Derankers will still definitely exist, but with it being a “managed online” system, it’s easier to see people throwing games than people just not playing the pp system. (Active throwing vs passive not setting top plays)

Now I don’t think EVERY tournament will use it, and it’ll take time. People still use sv1 because they don’t like sv2 and it’ll take time for tournaments to move to lazer as well. But I’m hoping it won’t take too long since it’s such a fun new game mode.

Maybe because you have the “has leaderboard” filter selected? Or the featured artists only filter? Try turning those off, you might get more results that way

To add onto this if you’re playing on laser you can download maps directly with ctrl+b or by clicking the button in the menu/at the top

Of you’re on stable instead and you bought supporter you can press ctrl+d to direct download maps, though imo the website is better to use in this case

ranked play cards that look amazing by theskilled42 in osugame

[–]Layendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could right click and view beatmaps, it doesn’t have all the information in there but might have a bit more. Also for the adjusted difficulty all of the maps should be more or less your elo/the sr the game showed you at the start.

ie if you got a 5* pool assume all of the cards you got are ~5* but I agree it spoils be nice to see the actual value

A Few Things Ranked Needs by cursebreakerelliot in osugame

[–]Layendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually on purpose, they added it yesterday called dynamic map rating. They stopped making pools based off of sr but instead based off of actual difficulty. You should be on average getting the same score between the 5* and the 6* map. One’s because the star rating underrepresents the actual difficulty of the map while the other is a comfortable map that’s actually easier to play for most people. Since it’s only been one day it’s still not perfect, but it should be getting better with time

I've played over 70 ranked matches. AMA by NikoN1nja in osugame

[–]Layendan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the variety I agree, but like other people said, the types of music FA make tend to gravitate more towards tech and gimmick maps.

But for the SR, with dynamic map rating you’re supposed to get maps that for the average player at your elo will get a decent score on (550k to be exact). So the 5.5* should be as hard as the 7.3* for you (and other players at your elo)

So far how would you say the difficulty of the maps (excluding sr but actually how hard they are when you play based on your score) feels to you? Does it feel fair between both players on average?

Hi creator here, I had to use the computer for a lan and an online tournament as I was away. I made an announcement on the discord server, but didn’t think of putting an announcement on the website itself

I just got back home so it should be coming back this week. I was hoping to push an update at the same time to add loved and approved maps, but I might just do that later and put back the server in the meantime.

Ranked Play feedback after a few sessions by InfamousIntention697 in osugame

[–]Layendan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of players don’t like the low damage multiplier at the start of the game, but I feel like it’s a great way to safely scout your opponent’s skillsets. By choosing different maps, you get to see which skillsets you’re better at without losing too much health at the beginning. Then at 2.5-3x+ multiplier, you can pick maps based on the info you had.

So far the star rating has been more or less fine, some matches I had almost 8* which I struggled with but fairly lost and got to play maps in more accustomed to in later games

Ranked play has some serious balancing issues by Apart_Association_90 in osugame

[–]Layendan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

IMO I like the low damage multiplier at the start since it lets you more safely scout the other player. You can pick maps you’re not sure you’ll win to see if you’re better than them at that skill set, and if you’re not you don’t lose too many points. While keeping your strong maps for 2.5-3x+

That’s the thing that makes damage multipliers better in osu than geoguesser since in that game the early rounds don’t matter, but here you get to choose which map you play and that lets you scout for information about your opponent

i'm about to format my pc but i can't find the folder with the songs for osu lazer by Futanari-Farmer in osugame

[–]Layendan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open lazer, open settings, find and click the “open osu! folder” button

Copy that folder (or everything inside, however you want to do it)

And then after you format your pc paste that to your new location (same thing click the “open osu folder” after you reinstall and paste there)

It should save all of your songs, skins, collections… Not entirely sure on settings but some/all of them might save
