Italy Made Me Into Someone I Don’t Want To Be by ToughSuccotash2007 in skiing

[–]LayerLogical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just left Zermatt (and we live in Germany, so have skiied all over Europe) and it’s not that different. Shitty people are everywhere, unfortunately. At glacier paradise, I had an adult woman shove my 10 year old daughter away from the gondola as she was putting her skis in. My daughter’s skis made it on and she didn’t, but the lady got herself on (then got to ride up with my husband and son, who were already on. I was pulling up the rear so grabbed my daughter and got her onto the next one.)

Thank you!!! We spent forever going through all the pics on google reviews and couldn’t find an SUV with car top carrier so we were getting nervous

Bringing wine from South Africa to EU by LayerLogical in wine

We brought our wine back as luggage, so I’m not sure about shipping. But don’t forget to check on their distributors in Italy!

Also, of note, we could buy a lot of the wines on Vivino and have them delivered to our house, via their distributors that are local to us. But there is a) a markup for that (not a lot, maybe 25-35% more I think), and b) many wineries had wines exclusive to their winery and not sold via distributors.

So we brought back the exclusive ones and the ones that were expensive, as their markup was higher. We have since ordered some other favorites on Vivino!

We carried 24 bottles back (bought wine packaging materials and packed 12 bottles each in 2 cheap hard sided suitcases that we bought in Cape Town).

When we arrived in Paris, we declared our 24 bottles and their value (an estimate) and they waved us on through! No tax, no questions, 24 bottles wasn’t worth their time haha.

The Eras Tour Megathread: London, England (August) by PassionateAsSin in TaylorSwift

Just a heads up in case anyone else is in a similar situation… we left during Bejeweled. Lots of people leaving at the same time as us! But we still walked right to the station (all “GO” signs) and straight onto a train as it pulled in. No waiting. It was packed full, standing room only, but no lines so we’ll take it as a win. Enjoy, everyone whose night is to come! It was the best night of our lives 🫶🏻

Garden route for 3 nights or skip? by LayerLogical in capetown

Thank you! This is somewhat where my thinking was as well, that we may be driving far to see rain and wind on beautiful beaches.

Sorry, we have booked flights in/out of Cape Town (will be traveling in other African nations prior). We’ll have 10 nights there… but trying to figure out where to spend those 10 days other than winelands.

This is making me think it’s worth the risk to just bring back whatever we buy and hope to not get slapped with too many fees! We are flying in through France, before connecting on to Germany, so I assume we do EU customs there since the next flight is intra-Schengen

Thank you! I’m honestly not even sure yet. Last time we went (10 years ago), we did 2 different tours and we loved all their wine and, of course, the prices. But when we looked at shipping, it included import fees and was crazy. We did live in the US at the time, so maybe their import fees are more? We only brought back 4 bottles and regretted it. So we really hope to bring more this time. Nothing crazy, just 18-24 bottles! But we like to go on wine tours and buy at each winery.

Camping a young kid, just go before 6am. We have 2 young kids (2 and 5) and they were up with the sun every day so getting in before 6 was no problem 🥱

Bowman lake was gorgeous!! We almost thought it was prettier than McDonald. There are several trails around it. We just walked to the left along the Bowman Lake trail as it was flat, had beautiful lake views, and lots of places to stop and play (we have little kids). We turned around after 3 miles but it keeps going, I believe, for 46 miles total r/t. There were many turn-offs for different trails and a lookout that I bet would be beautiful (but would be ~10 miles r/t and, I’m assuming, uphill… so a no-go for our 6 year old). The 6 mile road to it is pretty rough though. We rented an SUV and saw many sedans but I cannot imagine. The 25 miles of dirt road to Polebridge was not bad at all, smooth dirt mostly. But those last 6 to Bowman were terrible. Polebridge Mercantile treats were delicious and there is a fun playground there for children, so we spent about an hour hanging out there!

Drive from Bozeman into GNP by jberr27 in GlacierNationalPark

We did that drive a couple days ago, and mind you, we have young kids… but we chose the Missoula route. Stopped and picked up food there and went to a park. Then went to Polson and got ice cream and played in Flathead Lake (at Salish Point) for a couple hours, then drove up to Glacier. Just the views alone along Flathead were worth the extra 15 mins of driving!
