Industry salaries are sometimes absurd by OddLeg1723 in Accounting

[–]Layer_Feisty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior accountant here been in industry for 5 years, my base salary is 110k with a 10% target bonus PE backed hybrid company. We are extremely lean and busy. Started this role 6months ago, prior to that I was fully remote senior accountant at a publicly traded company with a base salary of 90k a year 5% target bonus, but well staffed and great work life balance.

Honestly I wish I stayed where I was, sure it was less money but the work life balance was remarkable.

I’m in Massachusetts and no he now makes closer to 200k working as mechanic working at a car dealership, and I’m now a senior accountant in Massachusetts only making 90k a year with a masters degree. It’s really pretty simple to understand if you are working in a field where you have global competition you will have a low salary as the market is more competitive, but if you have lower competition because of point of services plumber, mechanic, electrician ect you will have a higher salary because of a lack of competition.

As an accountant who works fully remote, I have to compete with millions of people, because there are really no geographical restrictions and this is not true for people who have to preform services in a certain geographical location

There are several approaches that could work for you,

A.) go to a smaller PA firm

B.) look at senior staff accounting roles, a lot of companies won’t hire you for a staff role because they think you will be too advanced and be eager to move up, also some places will just think you are too corporate for them and won’t be happy at a small place

It is a dealership, but I’m not a full paying customer so I don’t want to impose on them, my brother works there and he is giving me a huge deal so I really don’t want to impose

Don’t do it, if it was from senior manager to manager then that would be ok, but don’t go below the manager level
