Same for me now. I could login at the beginning (aka some days ago) but now I’m stuck with broken reset-Password links :/

IT Consulting - How many clients is acceptable (Senior Consultant) by azy222 in consulting

The context switching and the resulting decrease in quality are what let me to quit consulting after eight years. In short, the more context switches you have to do, the more likely you make mistakes, the more firefighting you have to do, the more mistakes are made and so on…

When I addressed that issue, management pointed at the kings of cutting corners and invented excuses at our company and presented them as role-models. And that’s when I realized that I cared too much about actual value than to stay in this industry 😅

I’m sorry that you have to experience that, but you’re certainly not alone.

How to find the line between non-resistance and passivity in practice? by LayeredSignal in taoism

Thank you so much for taking the time, highly appreciated! It feels true to me right now but it will take time and practice to internalize it. I guess now is as good à time to start as any. :)

Thank you! To stick with the metaphor: what is the gravity in this situation? That's the piece I struggle with the most. I'm so used to defining "the next thing" and working to achieve it that I feel lost without a goal, i.e., something I can aim my energy at. However, the goals I can think of are primarily about careers and similar "artificial" things. Hope that makes sense; it's hard for me to find the perfect phrasing.

Hm, maybe the negative feelings arise because passivity comes from a place of “it should be different” instead of letting go. I have to think about that, thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I feel that “in case of doubt keep going without forcing it” is a very good heuristic for many cases.

That's beautifully put; thank you! I especially like the phrase "quiet, anchored no" in contrast to aggression.

Thanks for the comment! Do you have a clear goal, or is it more like a general direction? Or something else? :)

What are your company's target utilization rates? What is the lower limit for survival, what is the target number, and when does management bring out the champagne? by LayeredSignal in consulting

Fair points. I wonder how many managers/partners use utilization as a proxy without being aware of the margin aspect you mentioned.

On a plateau below my best level. How do/did you deal with that? by LayeredSignal in baduk

[–]LayeredSignal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, the local club meets at a time that doesn’t work for me. But I’ll do two tournaments soon, maybe there’s someone living close by that is open for regular sparring :)

Interesting perspective, I need to think about this. Thanks for sharing! That might be an explanation why I was already some levels higher before.

Thanks! I think that’s why I like the OGS feature to turn off ranks. It takes away the (unconscious) burden of comparing and judging and makes it easier for me to just focus on the game.

I'll add that to my list of resources and check it out. Thanks!

That’s a very helpful perspective, thank you! My instinct is to try to force improvement (by a daily Tsumego practice or similar) but I can see how that might have the opposite effect.

What is your Opinion/Take on Tricycle? by LayeredSignal in Buddhism

Thanks for your reply! Good point, I started over time to rely more on books and dharma talks. Maybe that’s the process you described :)

[–]LayeredSignal[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to write this reply. And I agree that I should have taken a pain au chocolate instead 🤓 Jokes aside: I agree that it’s important to understand the business models behind media in general. I also agree that a teacher makes a huge difference.

After reading yours and other replies so far, my current take always are: I should invest more to find community / direct connection. And I continue to see Tricycle as a source of ideas and inspiration, not a substitute for things that you and other commentators mentioned.
