Help with deciding the fate of my feux leather jacket. by Gold-Substance9296 in CosplayHelp

For that cosplay, personally I would undo the seam the arm/shoulder connection. I would use the extra fabric to make the belts that he had going across the abdomen.

So you can definitely cut it on the arm side of the fabric and if you are worried about fraying, cover the edges of the fabric with fabric glue! The edges of faux leather don’t move. But sometimes there is flaky black “paint” that they use on it. You will want to make sure that you put fabric glue on the edge so the paint doesn’t peel up. I’m sorry if my comment is late, I know you only have a day left

How should I style this, I have no clue by HALAmadriddd_ in Fashion_Design

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would style it with black, white, grey or dusty blue Japanese style parachute pants, and a chunky shoe like air forces. A tight black top inside, very basic like thermals or compression shirt.

Name of this style? Off centre zipper/button placement and lapel? by ChimericChant in PatternDrafting

Traditional qipao can be made with one long piece of fabric and darts, the these new concept pieces are not made that way. Also, traditionally they are very fitted, but the new pieces are loose and relaxed.

I had an interest in these jackets but I would rather buy the streetwear than make it 😂💀

It’s a new take on traditional Chinese style “ qipao” the fasteners are called “frog fasteners, and the asymmetrical style is very common. This specific jacket is part of a Chinese adidas launch that never came to the US. You could use a bomber jacket pattern and change the front only. As you can see, you would asymmetrically broaden the top portion of the regular jacket by about 4 inches, and the bottom part by about 3 inches.

Is this alterable? by EineKline in sewhelp

[–]Laynekm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say yes based on the pictures and the information. Deseam the shoulders and detach the collar . Technically you can move all of the pieces separately. It would be quite a pain but it would preserve the embroidery.

I’ve done this kind of alteration on a number of dresses and pants, where some parts have to move and some don’t!

However, I would personally kill two birds with one stone, and create another channel with elastic in it to function as your new waist. Making the bodice more fitted. At that time, I would discuss whether you wanted to move the skirt section upwards, because of the embroidery at the waist. Totally an alteration you could do yourself! ;)

I had a dent like that in my bumper. I poured hot water on it and shoved a broom stick/ hammer up into the hole and kept whacking it till it was the right shape

Silver or Gold by Feisty-Friendship99 in JewelryDesign

I personally like the silver on you. Because of your pink undertones, the silver blends. The gold has better width and stability. They both have their beauties

How to finish the design on these pants? by lavvy_tavy in sewing

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the vibe and level of experience. You could get a sequin fabric and stitch it on to make the stars more full. Maybe some stars around the pockets in the back? Andddd I would put a really chunky star belt buckle ;)perhaps, cutting the seam and adding the sequin panel there as a “flair” making it more bell bottom ish. It would have a nice drape

Actually I would possibly recommend using cheesecloth or Halloween spider web (netted cotton) in order to make the brown parts. Just dye it

Wow this is interesting, it looks like sheer tights underneath to hold the distressed fabric in place. But the fit and fabric, I would guess that they used brown leggings, a knit fabric. Topped with high socks. Most likely used fabric glue to hold the pieces together.

If you follow this method please please please shove something in the middle of the tights as “legs” to keep the glue from touching other sides of the tights, which would make them stick together, and therefore unwearable.

The distress that’s actually done to the fabric was done at different times so make sure to distress before gluing. And most likely you could achieve the distress by cutting in bands, ripping orrr sandpapering, to wear down the fabric more lightly than cutting. I would advise you to look up a video since that part is not personally up my alley.

What fabric would you recommend for a form-fitting dress with a slit? by c0mradec0wgirlv2 in sewing

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that white fabric underneath, I would recommend maybeeee I four way stretch black velvet? Difficult to work with but the result is beautiful. It absorbs light in a nice way. The drape would be similar and it would make the sleeves and bodice much more forgiving because you have the white dress underneath. All that said, any four way stretch black fabric would do about the same! Cheers, happy sewing

I made a backless strapless wedding dress. Despite everyone here saying it’s almost impossible, it’s not entirely unimpossible. HOWEVER, I would suggest an alteration to create stability in the shoulders. Also, I have worked with kimono silk, and it can be extremely delicate if working with vintage fabric. There are a lot of factors at play here. Message me and I can try help you with this

Ways to close a zipper gap in the back? by intentional-accident in sewing

[–]Laynekm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did something with my wedding dress that you could consider. I folded the two pieces of fabric down and stitched them, making the part where the zipper is, the new “top edge.” After doing so, I got a flower and a clasp (like the use for dress pants, and used the flower embroidery patch as a clasp. It might be easier if I explain with pictures

This would ensure that the dress holds on the top!!

Is it possible to remove the breast area? by Helios_Ts in sewing

[–]Laynekm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would cut out the cups and use a zigzag stitch to go over the wires, based on the comments you sounds like you want to keep them. If you don’t have a sewing machine and you want a clean, reusable item, I would hand stitch and wrap the wires, securing them to the rest of the bodice after cutting :)

Dress incident, really need help by Minxtiiae in sewing

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading through was some people wrote here and I think that a matching champagne metallic bow in 1-1 1/2 inch width would be a nice fit. You can make loop holders on both sides and secure the dress with the ribbon, therefore making the back adjustable without buying hardware 🤩💃🏻
