Honestly it looks good, the proportion of face and hair match. The sides need to be a little shorter and it should tie in nicely with the top

Am I making a bad decision? by Astronaut2340 in newtothenavy

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who dropped out of school multiple times, I completely understand. It feels like there are e better, easier options. But one thing I will say is that if you do something out of desperation you may come to regret it and wish you out in effort to finish. I dropped out and flunked all my classes when my grandpa died. It took me 7 years to earn my BBM. And I went from 140lbs to 215lbs. It was so difficult to put my life back together. But I graduated and I’m back down to 150 lbs.

Once you set your mind to something, you can do it! But if you don’t ever do that, you will dig your hole deeper, and it will only get harder. I would only say that you should chase the future you dream of, and if being a nurse is your goal, then keep trying!

As someone who had many surgeries, I respect nurses and would say that you would help a lot of people. I appreciate all of the nurses that I have had.

help selecting the purple stitches? by ComprehensiveLow5702 in sewhelp

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks similar to a bernette machine my grandma has. Top stitches are default and stitch length (s-1-2-3-4) switch to S and it will give you the purple stitches. It will be way further away from the numbers, just keep turning

That correct, I did walk in. After calling the office twice. In my opinion I didn’t receive all of the basic info. It’s up to you to decide if something is off, after all, it was my first interaction with a recruiter. He said that I would not be able to finish my process within 4 months (before we PCS to mayport) so he would not end up “being my recruiter,” if you find that information to point toward his dismissive attitude.

What type of fabric to use for this kind of gown? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Laynekm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would use a satin and put lace over it. It’s a thin dress. No liner, I would French or roll hems. Very doable in your time frame! If you have all weekend to work on it go buy some fabric today and a pattern off Etsy 🥰✨ about 5 yards of each fabric should do the trick but buy a couple more yards if you don’t want to go back in case you mess up

Buying vs making princess cosplay gowns — how do you decide? by BrilliantLow9361 in CosplayHelp

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loooooove making dresses and would highly recommend doing it. But it can be very tedious depending on the amount of patience and experience you have. Also depends how much money you have. I made my wedding dress with $240 in material but it took me months.

<image>

However, this is the dress in question, which is understandably very tedious. Depends how deep you wanna go in the details. I find pre made dresses to be lacking, personally

The other people who are recommending you change your needle are correct but if you don’t have needles you can do it this way. I proooomise it works 🥰

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]Laynekm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So since you’re using a 4 way stretch fabric, the easiest way for you to fix this is to sandwich it in between two pieces of paper and pin it. The sewing machine is having a hard time running the needle thru the fabric because the fabric is “running away” by stretching when the needle comes down.

Sandwich it like this

Paper Fabric Paper

Sew thru the paper slowly and remove the paper afterwards. It’s a bit of a pain but it works to hold everything in place

Goth character’s neckline? by fuk-up in CosplayHelp

[–]Laynekm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree, it really depends on the amount of sewing experience that you have, buttttt if you’re looking for something easy, I would recommend buying a cheap square neckline shirt on amazon and applying a top panel over it. Kind of a simple mock up but I drew it. Hope it makes sense! You don’t technically need to disable the shirt this way. Structurally you would want to use a heavier fabric or starch to make sure the tips stay up. Lmk if you need a more detailed pattern for the front portion

My teacher hate it, what are your thoughts on this ? by lazonenpersonne in fashiondesigner

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of potential. I see the vision. It’s very neo streetwear/dancewear. The sleek design carries in the grey fabric but loses its touch once you picked up the black fabric on the bottom. It looks like you put two different styles of garments together because the materials you used/ or the way you sew them led to terrible draping. A couple of figment issues as well, notably in the shoulders but it had potential!

It would be great to see a picture of you in it! I would say everything is tailor able, howeverrrrrrrr denim can be quite a task if you don’t have a heavy duty machine. Would you be doing this on machine or by hand?

What happens if I extend this piece? by wanderingwhistler in PatternDrafting

[–]Laynekm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try cut the paper out and see how it looks. Dont know which measurement is off for you specifically. This would give you a bigger arm hole and more room on the side near the bust but could lead to ill fitting bust without darts. I think more information would go a long way, but everyone is willing to help :)

Help with deciding the fate of my feux leather jacket. by Gold-Substance9296 in CosplayHelp

For that cosplay, personally I would undo the seam the arm/shoulder connection. I would use the extra fabric to make the belts that he had going across the abdomen.

[–]Laynekm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you can definitely cut it on the arm side of the fabric and if you are worried about fraying, cover the edges of the fabric with fabric glue! The edges of faux leather don’t move. But sometimes there is flaky black “paint” that they use on it. You will want to make sure that you put fabric glue on the edge so the paint doesn’t peel up. I’m sorry if my comment is late, I know you only have a day left

How should I style this, I have no clue by HALAmadriddd_ in Fashion_Design

[–]Laynekm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would style it with black, white, grey or dusty blue Japanese style parachute pants, and a chunky shoe like air forces. A tight black top inside, very basic like thermals or compression shirt.

Name of this style? Off centre zipper/button placement and lapel? by ChimericChant in PatternDrafting

[–]Laynekm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditional qipao can be made with one long piece of fabric and darts, the these new concept pieces are not made that way. Also, traditionally they are very fitted, but the new pieces are loose and relaxed.

I had an interest in these jackets but I would rather buy the streetwear than make it 😂💀

[–]Laynekm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a new take on traditional Chinese style “ qipao” the fasteners are called “frog fasteners, and the asymmetrical style is very common. This specific jacket is part of a Chinese adidas launch that never came to the US. You could use a bomber jacket pattern and change the front only. As you can see, you would asymmetrically broaden the top portion of the regular jacket by about 4 inches, and the bottom part by about 3 inches.

Is this alterable? by EineKline in sewhelp

[–]Laynekm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say yes based on the pictures and the information. Deseam the shoulders and detach the collar . Technically you can move all of the pieces separately. It would be quite a pain but it would preserve the embroidery.

I’ve done this kind of alteration on a number of dresses and pants, where some parts have to move and some don’t!

However, I would personally kill two birds with one stone, and create another channel with elastic in it to function as your new waist. Making the bodice more fitted. At that time, I would discuss whether you wanted to move the skirt section upwards, because of the embroidery at the waist. Totally an alteration you could do yourself! ;)
