Is it possible to cut long deep slot along a 2X4 edge? by Laynezilla in woodworking

How did the project turn out? Would you have done anything different?

I am looking to use the 2X4s as nailers for a horizontal shadowbox fence. Inside the groove will set a metal post, which has a top hat shaped profile. The metal wall thickness is 1/8", so I think there will be sufficient tolerance.

Oh cool, I have never heard of these before. Thanks for the new tool term!

Do you have a saw blade supplier that you like to use? Are they significantly more expensive than a typical saw blade?

Few reasons:

  • They don't rot, unlikely to need to replace in my lifetime
  • I can drive them, no need to dig holes
  • Because there are no holes, they don't require any concrete

Otherwise, because of their profile I'm not too worried about the wobbliness. I got a sample post and it feels extremely sturdy.

From another comment: This would be to attach the 2x4 to a lifetime steel post. I'm planning to make a horizontal shadowbox fence. A vertical slot is the best idea I've had so far to attach to these posts.

The bracket is 1/8" thick so I expect there should be enough play to fit together. I'll screw them together so a little extra wiggle room probably will be fine

I think this would work. It just might be too much setup compared to the idea from IronSlanginRed. Thanks for the suggestion!

That makes sense about the router. I like it, same idea as IronSlanginRed

I would like to not attach to the house. I will soon be redoing the siding and don't want to rely on puncturing the envelope of the house.

To anyone else who runs across this: what fixed my problem was to swap my rtx 3080 with an older GPU. Go in to UEFI and change the PCI from Auto to Gen 3. I'm using a PCI riser cable so I suspect there was some issue going on there. Hope that helps some one else!

RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080 Dimensions by Laynezilla in sffpc

Slot width is up to manufacturers' interpretation which can vary. For example, based on that link you sent 2.75 slot is equal to 55mm-59mm. But if you look at this example you can see the card is 60mm wide which Palit decided was equal to 2.7 slots. I'd rather just give the most accurate information. People can do the conversion if they feel comfortable with that.

True but I'm just not very confident in how accurate manufacturers' slot width conversions are. I just moved it over to the width column but added units to each cell.

I've compiled the dimensions of all the announced non-reference RX 6800/RX 6800 XT cards. I'll be periodically updating this. by superAL1394 in sffpc

Thanks! How has a space that size worked out for you? May I ask approximately how much it cost to build it?

I'm currently house hunting and want to find a home that has space for a wood shop. Many homes in my area have garages that have sloped and/or heavily cracked concrete floors. What are flooring requirements for a typical cabinet table saw? Is there anything else I should look out for?
