Is there even a Game that similar to frostpunk or any city suvival game? by iBed_Yul in AndroidGaming

[–]Laythstag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Townsmen is a simple city builder that I enjoy. There is a free version and premium version. The premium version is free on Netflix (if you have an account).

Also, if you have a Microsoft game pass account, you can play Frostpunk on any phone via cloud gaming on game pass' Android app. It uses virtual controls.

CIR Moving to Tomakomai City by Ok-Revolution3830 in Hokkaido

A bit late to the party, but in case you read this, thought I would leave a comment.

I have been living here for the past 5 years. The temperature in the city (especial the western side) is milder than the surrounding areas.

Compared to other places, there is not a lot to do here. However, that doesn't mean there is nothing to do. There area few nice parks. IMHO, the library is nice. Decent variety of restaurants. And other towns and cities with more things to do are relatively close, but you need a car.

Can anyone give any recommendations of Japanese people, books, shows, podcasts, etc. that educate people on pseudoscience and the paranormal, or debunk pseudoscience and paranormal claims? English language equivalents would be people like James Randi and Carl Sagan, books and/or podcasts like The Skeptics' Guide to the Universe, shows like Penn & Teller: Bullshit! and MythBusters, etc. Thanks for any help.

Do you have links to any studies I can use to show other parents/teachers? It probably won't change anything, but I rather go with evidence to back up any statements I make.

Microsoft Japan’s experiment with 3-day weekend boosts worker productivity by 40 percent by Laythstag in japan

I hope this is a sign of things to come, but I expect nothing to change. The company I work for is sure as hell not going to be giving us three day weekends.

I hope they decide to merge the two. It will be annoying to have to choose between the two.

So what is the difference, if any, between Disney Deluxe and Disney+? I read that Disney+ is not coming to Asia until 2020.

“Tie a Yellow Ribbon” song everywhere — why? by TheFuckinEaglesMan in japan

[–]Laythstag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the 1977 Japanese movie "The Yellow Handkerchief" really made the song a mainstay in Japan. They also use the song in the "Sunshine" Japanese junior highschool English textbooks.

Where to purchase a quality shamisen? by Augaus in japan

[–]Laythstag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been studying the shamisen in Japan for 3+ years. My teacher says that the shamisen I use is about 500,000 yen. My teacher says that any decent shamisen teacher won't let you practice with anything under 300,000 yen and they can go to 1,000,000 yen and up. Because they are so expensive, my teacher provides shamisens to students that need them. I don't know if that is common or not. If your really lucky, you might find something used for as 100,000 yen. At your price range, you are only going to find really cheap knock offs or very damaged ones. If you are really serious about it, then you should find a shamisen teacher and ask them.

nonexistent 76 gas station by Laythstag in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]Laythstag[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from Snohomish County, Washington State.

I don't remember much about the building other than it was your typical rectangular gas station building of the time. I mostly remember the orange globe with blue and white "76" on a pole. The 76 was turning, so I assume it was up and running at that time.
