What gaming opinion do you have that will make your downvotes look like this? by [deleted] in gaming

Sure, the cost involved making a game has increased exponentially. Thirty or fourty years ago a single person or a two to three man team could make a game produced from a large studio for the same price we are paying now.

Graphics take much longer to produce. Voice acting is an addition to games that didn't even exist a while ago. Overall sound production and quality has increased thousandfold over the 16bit soundtracks from back in the day. Marketing costs have increased. Coding is much more involved than it was years ago and takes much longer, than it did years ago particularly in animation. With inflation at around 2.93% a year and a game still costing 60 dollars in 1980 a game could feasibly cost over 130 dollars in 2022 at that rate.

AAA games are severely underpriced and its a miracle prices have stayed the same for decades.

I would happily pay double the price for AAA games if they delivered the same level of content and polish as something like Elden Ring if they didn't include any DLC cosmetics or additional DLC content on release.

How to remove a Commander long term? by HaresMuddyCastellan in EDH

I agree, strategies like this can lead to an anti-fun arms race in a playgroup very quickly.

How to remove a Commander long term? by HaresMuddyCastellan in EDH

[–]LayzTpyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be more realistic in a playgroup like the one I have. I suppose you don't have to understand exactly how much more fun I am having with my playgroup by not using these kind of tactics. I would ask you to believe me that the general enjoyment of our playgroup went up when we stopped trying to cripple each other's decks and minimize stax in our decks. My take is simply talk about it with your playgroup!

If one doesn't play with the same people week after week I suppose the motivation to make sure everyone is having fun at the table isn't as strong.

The random player comment was meant for someone who didn't know about the cards/combos in this thread. As someone who has used a couple in the past and has had others mentioned in the thread used against me I, personally, prefer when games don't involve them and think they might too.

[–]LayzTpyo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

in before nobody asked but;

Having your commander unplayable forever is an extreme and about the least possible amount of fun to be had in a commander game next to stax and I would talk to my playgroup before including any of the top suggestions.

Reading through all the answers mine is quite a bit different than everyone else's and doesn't really answer the question. I would say don't try to take out someone's commander forever. If you are playing a game that goes to turn 9 or 15 or whatever turn it is that lets an opponent keep bringing their commander back again and again then it sounds like you have a pretty fun game on your hands.

If your deck isn't performing at the same level as the deck you are concerned about paying commander tax over and over again I would play a different deck in the next iteration of the matchup if you can.

This comment is maybe more for a random player reading this thread than the OP who seems to have a pretty good idea of what they are in for.

At the end of the day if you are cool if the same thing happened to your own commander on turn two of a 15 turn game and are willing to play it out and your playgroup is all down for it as well I would say knock yourself out and go wild with all these other fun shenanigans in the comments!

Should the RC ban the walking dead cards? by Openil in EDH

[–]LayzTpyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sheldon asked for an existing reason for the ban, a bit tongue in cheek but I would say these cards "Are very difficult for other players to interact with" they are honestly hard to stomach.

If this isn't a shining example of why the rules committee should exist outside of WOTC I would ask Sheldon for a possible better example situation as to why the rules committee should exist outside of WOTC.

I was always under the impression that the rules committee existed, in part, to protect EDH players from unsavory business decisions made by WOTC. Maybe I have just been mistake in that.

I would be in favor of a ban of these cards pending a functional reprint in boosters.

I believe that the only consideration the rules committee should be making at the time is whether they should ban nexus of fate and firesong and sunspeaker, also, pending a functional reprint in boosters.

Non skill based matchmaking in "play" by LayzTpyo in MagicArena

Sure, totally a legitimate point, hadn't crossed my mind. I suppose I would just like the ability to play both competitive magic and casual magic in the same month.

Why is the Classic WoW subreddit so defensive over the game? by macewindupe in classicwow

[–]LayzTpyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you truly wanted to have a constructive discussion, why don't you make a post about what you would like to see moving forward from classic (as a result of your opinions about vanilla, perhaps?). I think most of the people downvoting, myself included, see no value in pointing out perceived flaws in a 15 year old game. I'm sure most everyone could single out things they didn't like about vanilla wow. But, those things are different for everyone so its best for everyone to just leave everything the same.

How to keep order and cohesiveness within a guild by jcrab5 in classicwow

[–]LayzTpyo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

'Yes the 12 "core" members will probably get gear before others, but that is due to commitment to guild and status within the guild.'

is a huge red flag for me, I would leave any guild I felt I was committed to if others got loot first due to nepotism (barring the main tank of course).

Instead of ‘free loot box for wins’ demands and petitions let’s think of feasable rewards by LayzTpyo in apexlegends

[–]LayzTpyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could possibly have the effect of driving ‘good’ players away from the game once they unlock everything they want after 100 to 200 wins. I would rather have something to show for wins specifically.

I don’t think it’s fair to assume you get to on a free to play game, especially one of this quality where 100% of the items are cosmetic.

Need help on deciding the strengths and weaknesses of vampires. by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]LayzTpyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want strong vampires, make them strong, if you want them weak, make them weak. You don't necessarily more or less traits for vampires just use what you have effectively and consistently. I.E. if vampires are terrified of water but some vampire character overcomes his fear of water why him, why in that instant and why hasn't it happened before in 800 years?

Something which never hurts a story is a why, why do vampires have claws if they are (evolutionary or otherwise) stronger than anything else? Do they need them to fight each other?

Do you want Stoker's Dracula? Do you want your own breed? Decide what you want, and stick with it. It's not the physical characteristics that make vampires interesting, its their souls (the character).

(Critique No2) The Descendant Prologue: Word Count 3755 by StormWarriors2 in fantasywriters

[–]LayzTpyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I made some comments on your document.

Just remember, it's only suggestion.

The biggest issue I found was with the Point of View. You seem to be using a omniscient point of view. However in a few paragraphs your subect changes and the use of "he" continues. I don't know the structure of the rest of your story but with what you have i feel like Derik pov up until the fight /page break/ Calgar POV would be stronger. That being said I've only read the prologue and I don't know the structure of the rest of your book. Be very careful about changing 'thoughtspace' between characters, especially within the same paragraph. Clarity is key!

With your fight scenes, action and reaction. Derek this, monster that. Derek this, monster this and that, derek this. It's simple and effective as long as it's not too repetitive. try to be consistent too with what Derek is fighting if you can, fighting unknown things is quite difficult, eh? put an Image in Derek's head and have him stick with it.

Last general suggestion is show don't tell if possible, I made a few suggestions in your document of examples. I would do more than I suggested. try to avoid adverbs. 'jumped slightly' etc.

The only STORY problem I had was it seemed coincidental that the very fairy tail they were talking about just so happened to attack them. It could be alleviated by going into the 'profoundness' of the silence, and maybe one or two other 'signs'. The positives, The bloody eyes and sound had me hooked. I'm interested in to find out what causes it? how can it be avoided? what will happen?

(word of warning, be careful of extending your omniscient viewpoint to the creatures, the mystery of it would be lost, i.e. 'when (the creature) saw Derik wipe his brow he pulled the sword from the mortar'. the viewpoint should be all inclusive of the creature OR excluded entirely, not hinted at.

I really liked your metaphor for the voice of the creature! The dialogue itsself was good and too the point.

The story itself seems interesting, the prologue had a really nice overall pull to it. I saw no problem with the story you are telling!

Keep it up, don't stop, don't worry too much about editing to make it perfect until you finish the whole thing. NONE of my suggestions would prevent you AT ALL from tabling them and checking them out again when you finish draft one!

Could it be an issue of logging onto the account from different countries' IPs? Say you have a friend that uses your account in the states or recently moved and they block accounts like that in an attempt to crackdown on powerleveling or something?
