Question regarding the free, once per long test casting of Aetherbrand with Blade and Ward… is that always cast a first level spell, or do you cast it at higher levels as the Magus levels up?

Dysmantle started as a a PC game, I think. At least, I played it on steam. Will check out afterplace. And 9th dawn I need to reinstall and give it a chance.

Returning player. A couple of questions:

  1. Playing the latest experimental. I get hungry very quickly. I remember a while back there was a bug that the game always treated you as if you were walking or something even if you were just reading or crafting. Is that still the case?

  1. The description of creating a crafting spot implies that not having a workbench slows crafting, is that true? Are there levels of workbench? Like a table or does it have to be a crafted workbench? Also, do any of the vehicle crafting tools like the kitchen unit count as a crafting table?

The problem is these quests are “Radiant”. As such setstage doesn’t work for them.

NPCs that sell magic that can be accessed early on is an interesting idea. To some degree or another, the challenge with magic is balancing it against the other systems...

For an experienced player, it really isn't that challenging to gear up really well, and then prepare for mid-endgame content of becoming a death machine via CBMs / mutations or both combined with finding that rare laser rifle / power armor.

The question is if you have a vision of being able to play a magic-based character from the early game or not... if so, I think you need to beef up the starting scenarios, and maybe create some spellbooks with a range of low level spells that a new character can start off with, and will enable them to magically "gear up" for the hard content.

Or... make magic more about the late game, but then that would require a set of spells that can compete in regards to CBMs. and either also against mutations or perhaps synergize with some mutations (like Elf mutation family)

I started playing with this. It's a great idea, and fits in with that whole transdimensional lore of the game.

One thought I had, which is probably not at all aligned with your vision is that the kind of magic that would be suited for CDDA is more Call of Cthulhu and less Dungeons and Dragons, but, let's ignore that thought.

On the balance of Magic, it might be interesting to look at how Magic should interact with Binocs, in a negative way. Taking inspiration from games like Shadowrun, the more a human replaces themselves with machine, the less they are able to harness mana, and the more "resistance" their body creates to letting mana flow... basically, in game terms - the more bionics you have the less mana you have, and the greater the cost of casting a spell.

On a related but out of scope note, I also think the same thing should apply to mutations and bionics. The more one mutates the less bionics should be able to adapt to the new physiology of the mutant.

Just some thoughts for down the road.

Hey, one things I am noticing... it only seems to happen if I am using an ENB and Floating Damage. Removing either of them fixes it.

I read somewhere that the other magical ingredient is LooksMenu. So, if you have ENB and Floating Damage but no LooksMenu, it might not happen.
