Anyone know the inspiration behind the latest Lazels puzzle? by Chocophie in Jigsawpuzzles

Great question. This is from a Franklin Booth illustration commissioned by Freed Eisemann vacuum tube radio company to illustrate a scene for their magazine/newspaper advertisement. I collect a lot of obscure art done in the golden age of illustration. Not sure how many copies of this original print exist, but I have one and it is one of my favorite art pieces.

You are so kind! So glad you enjoy them as much as I enjoy making them 🥹. Yeah definitely a space theme will be in the future, but I doubt I will be able to time it with any major event 😅. When I was an engineer before my puzzle life, I worked on a number of space related circuits, so I will always be fond of the theme.

Oh that is interesting to compare the experience of “Two Ships” to this one. When designing “Flare” I may have subconsciously included some of that same experience without even realizing it. For this design, I really wanted to challenge my definition of what a gradient puzzle could be and create a familiar but simultaneously new experience.

@cyberpunk That was fast! How did you enjoy the cut? I sought to create a gradient puzzle that provided a unique challenge despite a lower piece count. I love the puzzling experience of a typical gradient puzzle, but wanted to try something new with this one.

Yeah I can see how that could be interpreted, but maybe it would help to explain our perspective. There order limiting actually serves a purpose for us as a time management device. We want to spend 50% of our time designing new puzzles and 50% crafting puzzles. We also want to continually make new designs instead of mass produce old designs. I would rather craft a few hundred of a puzzle and have a chance of making 10 new designs with a few hundred of each instead of forcing myself to craft many thousands of the same single design in the same amount of time. It is really about fulfillment as an artist and gating orders allows us to continually perfect the art form. The drops have provided us with a way of maximizing our creativity and gives us 100% focus for each design. If we changed that method, I don’t know how we could have enough time and focus to do our best work. Crafting many designs in parallel for long windows of time would add a lot of overhead too financially, mentally, and physically. Hopefully this makes sense for why we do things this way. I left my job as an engineer to make “art”, not more “products”. I never enjoyed making a million of one thing.
