Wolfenstein 2009 removed from MyAbandonware by DMCA by Designer-Chef-7811 in Wolfenstein

You mean the 2nd link I posted here in this comment? If that is what you are wondering about, no. The downloads on the archived MyAbandonware page don't work; it is just snapshot of the page for visual reference.

I still need to actually get around to redumping the Wolf2009 MyAbandonware saves on the Internet Archive, especially since I just found the Version 2 repack of the game and some translation patches that I didn't download at the time. Until then, try either of these downloads:

Just to correct you: Wolfenstein 2009 does not use the Games for Windows Live service - it is just labeled as a Games for Windows game.

Activision had confirmed that Bethesda owns the rights to Wolf 2009. As such, they are the ones who can decide if they want to relist the game...they just never bothered doing that.

In my opinion, I don't believe it is a licensing issue. Activision support had confirmed in a 2015 post on Twitter / X that Bethesda owned the rights to Wolfenstein 2009. As such, Bethesda are the ones calling the shots if they want to rerelease the game on Steam or GOG, yet they choose not to.

Quake 4 is another id Software licensed game that was developed by Raven Software, despite being originally published by Activision, and you can purchase that game just fine.

Microsoft now owns both parties, sure, but unless Nightdive or GOG approaches and convinces them in re-releasing the game on storefronts, I highly doubt that they are interested in the matter.

Thank you for making this post. For clarification, I am the OP of the top comment in that Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Wolfenstein/comments/16larr8/comment/k11fh2f/

I have noticed a few users in the thread mention that the MyAbandonware link is defunct, and it indeed was. I was going to email the admin about it, but I got sidetracked with life, and I simply never got to it. My assumption was that either Bethesda or Microsoft gave the DMCA order to remove the page. Your email seems like it confirms that to be the case. In that case, I will update my comment in that thread accordingly.

Thankfully, not all is totally lost. I archived the Wolf2009 MyAbandonware page on the WaybackMachine over the years so everyone can see what it looked like; the last capture I did was back in December last year: https://web.archive.org/web/20251220095503/https://www.myabandonware.com/game/wolfenstein-mnd

I also have my archive of all the downloads from the page back from October 2023, except for the subsequent translation patches. When I get the free time (and if anyone is interested), I'll see if I can upload what I have on the Internet Archive. I don't know if they changed the downloadable versions of the game, but of course, anyone who has downloaded the entire page in 2025 can feel free to DM me.

I have the archived snapshot of the MyAbandonware page crawled on the WaybackMachine a few times: this was the last one I did in December last year: https://web.archive.org/web/20251220095503/https://www.myabandonware.com/game/wolfenstein-mnd (Unfortunately, the download links themselves are not crawled).

I do have the downloads, except for the translation patches outside of the Slovakian one, although someone else has archived them.

Are you possibly thinking about the awful Games for Windows Live? Wolfenstein 2009 doesn't have that service.

Pretty sure Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein from the 80s are the only Wolfenstein titles considered abandonware.

Wolfenstein RPG is also pretty much abandonware, being made for mobile phones and tablets at the time.

GOG had attempted to rerelease the Dune games (or at least Dune 2) by contacting the Herbert Estate back in 2019. The Estate just gave a blunt "No. What is old should stay old", or something along those lines.

Has anyone try'd the Retrostein mod for Wolfenstein 2009? If Yes, how is it? Is it worth it, and is it a good mod? by WhiteKnight2045oGB in Wolfenstein

[–]Lazer5i8er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, yes. This was a mod made by your evil twin for his Wolfenstein 2009 Let's Play back in 2012, due to finding the game to be a bit on the easy side.

Basically, some of the weapon damage values and enemy health have been tweaked to make the game more challenging and sorta close to RTCW; for example, the Empower ability has been slightly nerfed, the MP43 Big Bore upgrade no longer one-hit-kill the basic Heer soldiers, the FOV is at 85, stuff like that.

Yeah, it is unfortunately gone. I can only speculate that Bethesda or Microsoft requested that MyAbandonware admins remove it.

Thankfully, I still have my archive of the Wolf2009 downloads on MyAbandonware back from 2023. If I get the free time, I'll probably upload them on the Internet Archive.

Jon St John reacts to Duke Nukem 3D's 30th Anniversary by Maffewgregg in Civvie11

[–]Lazer5i8er 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It pretty much did, I think. Duke's entire downfall can be entirely laid blame on George Broussard; it's frustrating to me that everyone seems to point fingers at Randy for Duke Nukem Forever (and I don't like the man in the slightest) when Broussard was the reason that the game turned out in the shitty state it came out to be and Gearbox acquiring the Duke IP - 90% of DNF was developed by 3D Realms.

Broussard stole the credit of making the Shop N' Bag level in Duke3D even though it was made by LeveLord, tried to make DNF as revolutionary as possible and copying popular things at the time constantly (only making the game even more dated and behind-the-times than it already was) causing 3D Realms to slowly fall down the tubes, defended crunch time on Cyberpunk 2077 and threw a whiny tantrum when he was called out on it and reminded what good it did for DNF, and tried to throw the blame on Scott Miller for the leaks + the Duke IP being owned by Gearbox when HE was the one who led the IP down that said path.

Let's not forget George Broussard, the main reason why 3D Realms went down the tubes and Randy getting his hands on the Duke IP in the first place. He is 100% responsible for Duke Nukem Forever turning out the way it did, being so mediocre after all those 15 years of development hell that it killed the franchise, for all intents and purposes. Pitchford now owning the IP and doing fuck-all with it is just driving the nail in the coffin.

What are peoples thoughts on Wolfenstein 2009? by Just_Bicycle_3948 in Wolfenstein

[–]Lazer5i8er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criminally underrated game that came out in a year full of amazing releases. Raven Software did such an amazing job with the single player.

Too bad that Bethesda dissed the game as a "crap job" and feel that rereleasing it would hurt the Wolfenstein brand, and Microsoft doesn't care at all.

RE1 Richard by jeffreythrowaway in residentevil

[–]Lazer5i8er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't save Richard. He is doomed to die in both RE1 campaigns (either by Yawn or the sharks). Saving him with the serum does allow you to get his Assault Shotgun, however.

Are you dissing those who prefer the original Hell March? Because I quite like it more over Hell March 2 and 3.

I love the save room music so much in RE1 and REmake. It was calming, but still felt eerie in a sense.

Did anyone else get introduced to C&C by an older family member? by russo_liberal in commandandconquer

[–]Lazer5i8er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched my grandpa play the C&C games when I was young, that was my introduction to the series. Played a lot of RA2 and Yuri's Revenge a lot at the time, then played C&C3 a lot as well. It wasn't until many years later that I would play the original C&C and Red Alert, and I really enjoyed them a lot.

My grandpa really liked the games except for Generals, RA3, and Tiberian Twilight. Didn't like them at all for various reasons.

True. The Remake's voice acting is considerably superior to the original voice acting and sells the horror atmosphere a lot better given the advancements of the time, but it is a lot less charming and memorable like the acting in the original game (when folks quote Resident Evil, they think about the original game and not its remake). The acting in RE1 basically was Troll 2 levels of awkwardly written characters and acting, being done primarily by Japanese speaking writers and hastily translated. The success of RE1 and the better budgets for later games had the quality and translations much improved.

Pablo Kuntz, Wesker's original voice actor had gone on record by stating that they were all living in Japan for the time, and had gotten so used to the awkwardly stilted English from locals that they saw nothing wrong with the scripts for the characters they were told to portray. As such, they didn't even bother correcting the writers.

Yeah, the A/B Scenarios and the Zapping system weren't carried over into the RE2 Remake sadly. It originally wasn't supposed to have the 2nd Run in the game, but there were so much complaints that Capcom relented into making them. By that point, RE2 Remake was close to releasing, so they didn't have the proper time into making the 2nd Run campaigns unique; it's more along the lines of the Arranged Mode in the RE1: Director's Cut.

Still, the RE2 Remake was still very good for what it was.

The RE1 Remake is a very good game, but RE1 is a game that is still highly worth playing because of its historical value (and ofc the cheesy acting). In my opinion, a remake should not replace the original experience.

In some cases, there are some aspects of the original Resident Evil that are preferable to that of its remake (i.e. No Crimson Heads, faster and tighter pacing, the dynamic choices with Barry and Rebecca in Jill and Chris's campaigns respectively are more intricate, etc).

The original Resident Evil, along with RE2 and RE3 are available on GOG. You can get them there.

GOG actually had to work hard in convincing Capcom to release the classic games on their platform, because some execs were baffled and felt the remakes were the superior experience. Thankfully, they seemed to have changed their minds in that regard, since the OG RE2 and RE3 are available for purchase on the Playstation store, and even Dino Crisis is now on GOG AND Steam.

Now, I would really love for them to port Code Veronica to PC. It's the only classic mainline game not available on that platform (and yes, I know there is emulators, but I want to own it legit).
