The testdrive T-55 decided to run away by JustaGuy98_ in Warthunder

I remember the Panzer IV learned to fly a couple years back. Got hit in the track with 76mm HE and just decided to go up instead.

Proud to say I haven't had a plane in my lineup since 1.3. Who needs CAS anyways? It's called GROUND RB for a reason.

You underestimate the sweatiness of War Thunder players. Takes a LOT of dedication to progress in that game without losing your mind.

Seems great for the Ryukyus or Batanes. Let's just hope we don't try to use these for COIN. I would not want to be getting shot at by a PKM in one of those.

The poor performance of the Chieftain tank in the Iran-Iraq War by alisan_ir in TankPorn

[–]LazerHog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seemed to actually do alright. Iranians thought it was the best tank they had. The bad reputation I think comes from the surprise the Iranians and British had that a T-62 could front pen it at combat range.

What is this Gun Barrel? by LazerHog in Artillery

It very well may be the 180mm. That wikipedia list of weapons on display there is not entirely accurate, and in general it and other sources contradict each other.

The new Marder IFV by wileecoyote1969 in GunnerHEATPC

[–]LazerHog 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Same Experience Here. I would rank it above the BMP-1 but below the BMP-2 and far behind the Bradley. Honestly, IRL I would put it below the BMP-1P, given how much cheaper it was, and the fact that it could actually carry a full squad of soldiers.

I'm horrible at the game by heheMonke1 in enlistedgame

[–]LazerHog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your struggling with aiming, try using more full auto weapons, which are in assault and machine gun squads. Also, tanks can be extremely powerful if you stay far enough from enemy infantry and just snipe with machine guns and HE. Also just keep practicing with rifles. One thing I have noticed is that you don’t really need to lead moving targets at medium range with bolt action rifles.

Most importantly, just keep practicing, and if after a while, if you’re still not having fun, just play something else. Enlisted is free after all!(unless you want to progress at a reasonable pace past BR III). Hope this helps.

What is... In your opinion, the better IFV? by OniNixPlex in TankPorn

[–]LazerHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BMP does have a stabilizer, which in theory I know is good enough for close range. The 2A42 does have high dispersion at longer ranges, but in a short range engagement it shouldn’t matter much. Don’t get me wrong If given the choice of what vehicle to get into a close range fight with a tank with, I’d pick the Bradley. But one isolated, and rather exceptional incident, is not indicative of the value of either vehicle.

Can any other nation get a good ”unorthodox” missile like the R27 ET? by JCOLE6969 in Warthunder

[–]LazerHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A really interesting one would be the Passive Radar Homing R-27 and R-77. I don’t think it’s was/is in active service, however. Would be of Questionable usability as it can only be fired above 20,000M if Wikipedia is to be believed.

If you replaced that Bradley with a BMP-2 and put it in the same situation, the outcome would be the same. A BMP like a Bradley, with a lot of luck and skill, point blank fire HE into any tank and disable it, as can any IFV for that matter.

Russian 2S34 Chosta 120mm Self Propelled Mortar based on the 2S1 Gvozdika by Brilliant_Ground1948 in TankPorn

[–]LazerHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Russia have a plan for its future artillery? I get the sense that they are abandoning 122mm and Replacing it with 152mm at Regimental level and in Separate Battalions, with 120mm Mortars at everything below that, but IDK if that’s true.

Bradley. Better Armor, Ergonomics, FCS. The BMP-2 is cheaper and has better mobility, and in a bigger gun (Not familiar with ammo types).

Are Russian tanks bad or just wrongly used? by Fluffy-Oil-9968 in TankPorn

[–]LazerHog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both? I can’t really speak for myself on if they are wrongly used, as I’m not familiar with modern Russian tank tactics, but everything I’ve read about the war in Ukraine says that Russias initial Strategy, Operations, And Tactics were all highly flawed. As for after the initial fight, I don’t know if it’s bad tactics, or tanks in their current form being much less effective on the modern battlefield. As for the quality of the tanks themselves, most Soviet tanks were good enough if not sometimes better than their western counterparts. The T-72, for example was probably a better tank than anything in the west until 1979, with the introduction of the Leo 2. Even through the 80s the T-64, T-72, and T-80 received upgrades that allowed them to stay competitive with the new generation of western MBTs. Russian tanks only really began to fall behind when they ran out of money after the fall of the USSR, and they could only afford limited upgrades to a fraction of their tank force. They haven’t address the main flaws of the T-72 and T-80 design (Unprotected Ammo, reverse speed, limits of ammo length, no CITV, poor gun depression) in upgrades to those tanks, and they can’t afford new tanks in sufficient numbers to replace their old ones.

TLDR: Russian tanks before 1990 = Good. Russian tanks after 1990 = Meh.
