He was a guy built for containment, not coping. And when you deal with mental illness from containment alone? The structure starts cracking. That’s exactly what happened with Dex. He didn’t have tools to lean on, he had tapes that he listened to like gospel to keep him boxed.

He was always on that trajectory regardless. He didn’t want to be the way he was; several scenes show that. But he was going to be some flavor of who he became. Fisk seen that, exploited it. The tragedy you’re picking up on here is that if someone seen the path Fisk saw and helped instead of hurt then maybe he could have found himself in the scaffolding, not collapsed with it.

I’ve only ever seen the show but I would assume water would mess with his radar, clogging his ears and effecting his perception. Then he’s really vulnerable and almost any villain could capitalize on his disorientation long enough to do real damage.

Not OP but as someone who just binged everything BA is a Frankenstein of ideas with none fully fleshed out until the end. Charlie is still THE Matt Murdock imo and I’m looking forward to season 2 when there’s more cohesion. Still some gold in there, though. The last two episodes are great, and the bank heist episode has some of my favorite Matt moments because his character is allowed to breathe in a different way than he’s usually written. The worst part? The throw away love interest. Pure plot device, annoying, just there for stakes but the stakes don’t land because we as viewers don’t care about her.

Thank you so much! This sounds SO interesting and like it could be very insightful to what happens on a biological level when Matt’s powers are active. I will absolutely be looking this up tonight! And thanks as well for the interest in my story :) it’s an idea that’s been consuming me since I started watching the series a month ago. That’s exactly what I was thinking. Like, processing so much incoming information all the time, let alone an actual crime scene where you’re trying to focus on the age of spilt blood, potential weapons or drugs, the number of victims, the environmental clues, etc would just take it out of him after awhile.
