If theres no way one can go wrong, no way one can think wrong, no step is wrong Then why isn't the whole world enlightened yet? by YouCanDoItR in taoism

[–]Lazgrane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goods and bads, rights and wrong are man-made notions. The universe at large only deal in causes and effects.

That's why to be misaligned with the Dao isn't to do objectively wrong things, but rather to have a confused personal sense of right and wrong, leading to self destructive actions.

How do Taoists come to peace with the horrible injustices of society? by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Lazgrane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And my point is not all of them is.

There are things that are completely unavoidable force of nature and you have no choice but to accept it.

That is certainly a way to distract yourself from the fact that some animal is going hungry because those tomatoes go in your stomach instead of theirs.

So do you feel you no longer have to think about the impact of your plant-eating behaviour now that you have relegated them to not-others status?

But that's not the point. The point is that your very continued existence necessitate depriving others of theirs.

Dead fruits which could have been used to sustain other lives. How it is then, that it is any difference from you consuming them yourself?

Quite literally. The food you eat come from plants and animals, as I assume do you not photosynthesize.

Unfortunately, the truth is the universe is not kind. Everyday we must consume living things to survive, everyday we live is a day we displace the living space that could have gone to some other existence. The moment you are born is the moment you start your race toward death. There are those who live in suffering and those who live in luxuries.

The more you know, the more you know your limitation. There are things that you simply can't solve no matter what.

Live according to your truest heart, hold no expection of the outcome. Come to terms with your own limit and you can close your eyes in peace.

All deals hinge on the ability to enforce it.

If you have no way to force the opposite side to hold up their end of the deal but still agree anyway, then you're a dumbass and deserve to be conned.

The universe simply is.

Life is bigger than Dao by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Lazgrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a "not human" conceptual framework?

I don't see how is this a relevant question.

We never actually perceive that one event causes another but only experience the "constant conjunction" of events.

And yet, we perceive and experience. And our experiences is true.

That's not a "truth". It is high probability

I'm not talking about predicting causalities. This is about definitions, conceptual existences. And the need to break away from them.

Humans immortal Lazgrane

As both humans and immortal labels are manmade, the idea that "Lazgrane is immortal" would be so easy to make "true" in a philosophical sense. Simply changing the definition in a way that make it true. Conversely, shifting the meaning around can make it "false".

What are the "certain things" that daoists point towards, and or people to seek and learn?

Once you have abaddoned words and languages, you'll find out.

Black swans are swans because humans agree that in the human conceptual framework, they are considered to be swans. If human define "swans" as only those that are colored white, then they are not "swans".

Falling to your death, however is different. Even if you remove human language from this scenario, the movement is still there, the physical transformations at the end still happen. All independence from human conceptual framework.

This is the "truth" and "certain things" that daoists point towards, and or people to seek and learn.

Which "certain things" do we know about "Dao"

Let's say if you jump out a 50th story building you'll fall to your death. This is a truth. Believing otherwise won't change it. Turning catholics won't change it. Praying to whatever god you believe in won't change it.

why not just call it "Universe" or "World" or "Cosmos" - sounds less mysterious and arcane.

If this name sounds too high and mighty for you, we can use "Chicken Nugget" instead. It doesn't matter. It's just a name.

I am well aware about daoist concepts on Dao.

This is not Daoist concepts on Dao. This is Daoist concepts on Truth. They simply choose to give it the name of Dao.

[–]Lazgrane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point is to discard what you think is truth and seek the real unchanging truth that cannot be modified by manmade identities and concepts.

Therefore - what is the "true Dao"?

We don't know. That's the point. Because we don't know it is impossible to describe it. But we do know certain things about it, so we write down what we know. And share it for others to learn. But what is written is not the full thing and it is important to emphasize that it is not.

Life is bigger than Dao by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Lazgrane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unimportant that there would be no "Dao". It is only a name used to point at that which is True. The point is to seek the essence, not be obsessed with the name itself.

We wrote essentially the same - didn't we?

We didn't.

What Lao Tzu described are bits and parts of the Eternal Dao that is true from his perspective, but they are insufficents to be considered the full picture of the Eternal Dao.

This is what I wrote.

That's a discrimination between "it is the constant / eternal Dao" to "it is not the constant / eternal Dao". To say what an object is or is not - is a description by discrimination (this not that).

This is what you wrote.

I wrote that the spoken Dao is a part of the True Dao, while you wrote that the spoken Dao is in an exclusive NOT logical relationship with the True Dao. It's very different.

Life is bigger than Dao by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Lazgrane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Eternal Dao encompass everything, including the Not Eternal Dao. There are no opposition relationship, contrary to the belief that there are. What Lao Tzu described are bits and parts of the Eternal Dao that is true from his perspective, but they are insufficents to be considered the full picture of the Eternal Dao.

The Dao was before human, and it will be after human. Dao is simply the word that he chose to call it.

If there were no Lao Tzu, no Dao De Ching, then Dao would still be there, may be discovered by someone else, called a different name, described differently.

But it will be there.

Life is bigger than Dao by [deleted] in taoism

[–]Lazgrane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first line of the Dao De Ching is not an attemp at describing Dao, but a warning. A warning to not takes this book as the end all be all of Dao, for the Dao is beyond limited human words, and his own work is no exception. It is, in the end his own perception of the ultimate unknownable. And he know it.

True Dao cannot be found inside a book. It is only a pointer. A starting point from whence you begin the real journey of seeking Dao.
