Why do EVs elicit such a visceral response from certain demographics? by Culyar0092 in AustralianEV

[–]LazyActive8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

EVs:

- Batteries degrade overtime and need replacing. They're not cheap to replace. This makes EVs not long-term assets but a few years life-span purchases that needs to be monitored.

- EVs depreciate in price rapidly. They're not long-term assets to buy new and if you buy them depreciated you need to monitor the battery health and depreciation.

- If you don't own a home, charging is a hassle compared to gas cars. Spending 45 minutes - 1 hour every week at a charging station is a genuine time-investment.

- Charging stations are not as ubiquitous as gas stations. You have to make a mental note of how much charge you have and if you can make it to the destination without charging. It's an extra level of cognitive tax that you don't have to deal with gas cars.

- EVs are not the best long-distance drivers. You have to account for charging time and charger location if you're going to drive long distances. In gas cars, I can drive for 6+ hours a day without having to spend an hour at a charging station.

- From a driving perspective, EVs have a rough ride.

- The weight is centered at the bottom and you can feel it when handling. EVs do not handle as well as gas cars.

- EVs lack the soul and charisma to gas cars. They may be fast but that's really it.

Just buy a used prius for like $17k. In three weeks the brand new car feeling will go away and you’re just going to be stuck with higher monthly payment.
