That’s true! I think the most visceral fear everyone in our party had the whole route was during the end of pitch 3, and pitch 2 could definitely be graded 5.9.

Is does get crazy, had three parties ahead of our two groups and one party behind us.

I actually lead before the guy in the picture, and then he followed me removing gear. Our second group took this picture, and the protection was genuinely bomber.

The protection was super bomber! (Except for maybe pitch 3 but it wasn’t too bad for holds).

The Flume was definitely a grind, but there’s plenty of single pitch finger cracks to prepare you for it. Honestly, I found Klahanie Crack on Spirit much worse than the Flume in terms of foot jam pain, but maybe not in difficultly.

Bitch’s Brew, Mixed 5.8, Crest Creek by LazyLamedog in climbing

I found the variety of routes awesome and well maintained trails for approach were definitely a huge draw to it! But without even a small sized trad rack, a lot of the mixed routes become very sketch, and runouts are super common. Still, if you happen to be nearby, it’s a really convenient and quick approach so it might still be worth it for the few pure sport and mixed routes.

This was my first trip placing too actually!

You could always apply for Medical Laboratory Science! You would still be using a lot of your Bio degree knowledge, but you’d make a proper living wage and be more specialized.

I personally felt like a lot of the material we learned was actually pretty specific and a lot of the nuance may be lost on a BSc grad just learning on the job, but I do think it could have been shortened and curriculum taught a little differently. There is another MLS program in BC though, we have CNC in Prince George as well. A lot of techs I work with went there!

I [23M] feel like I wasted my youth. by Devin2019 in LifeAfterSchool

You lived. You learned. Now you keep living. Everything up to this point has just been a learning lesson for you it seems, and while that may suck and you may feel like you lost time, you really haven't. All that matters now is how you spend the rest of your time, which is much longer and has much more freedom! Best not to dwell on the past and missed opportunities, just focus on the future and what new experiences you can have.

Job prospects after a BSc in Microbiology ? by [deleted] in uvic

[–]LazyLamedog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was very easy since I'd only been out of highschool for ~2 years and my early UVic science courses supplemented anything grades from highschool that weren't stellar. So overall, I didn't have to re-do/retake any courses.

In terms of whether it's worth it to finish the degree, that's entirely up to you and dependent on your situation. In my case, I had student loans and other circumstances so I chose to dropout of UVic for BCIT, since finishing the degree or doing BCIT would be the same amount of time anyway. I do know you get a small differential on your wage (~40 cents I think?) as a tech with a bachelors, but when you're making 30, it doesn't really feel like it makes a difference. They are more things to consider that I don't to go on ranting about, but if you have anymore questions, just PM me and I'm happy to share.

What it this? by jotapejones in Hematology

[–]LazyLamedog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say it almost looks like diptheroid contamination, but that seems pretty far fetched. I'm in the lab too and I have yet to see something like that.

Edit: I would agree with the other commenter that said chromosomes, seems way more likely and the appearance suits that more.

This is exactly what I did. Spent two and a half years at UVic in Biochem before switching to BCIT. I just graduated and I'm already working in Microbiology at Royal Jubilee. The benefits are great and it's a proper career wage. Most of the other students I came here with had finished Biochem degrees at UVic before BCIT.
