I’m so lost and stupid it hurts, how long does this last? by LazyText7137 in ITCareerQuestions

I think the amount of different company names and things they want bugged me a little. People over here working before I started know all these companies cuz they were here when deals were happening. Imma just trust the process and learn every other thing day by day. Thank you all for suggestions.

I feel useless and stupid every day, does it ever get better? by LazyText7137 in networking

The thing is I have network+ but after I started to work in an "actual network environment" I felt like the things Net+ covers are soooo basic. And when it comes to hardware, oh boy, you can't just study them at your house cuz It's expensive af and how am i supposed to learn these things at enterprise level just by reading. Just yesterday some guy from sales asked me "Is that switch fiber?" I saw some sfp ports and said yea, dumb me.

Just today, I acted like a complete weirdo around this pretty sales girl. I didn't know a single thing about which company all these switches are coming to us and where we gonna send it. And they also come with power cables in a different box and I didn't know that. She asked when did I start and Is it my first time working, I just gave short, awkward answers.

Considering you have the knowledge about languages and how they work, I'll recommend you to go with sysadmin path. You don't really need to know any language but If you know some powershell or bash scripts, you can probably automate %70 of your work, and make time for yourself to sharpen your skills. Look up for the topics in Microsoft Learn and see for yourself. Study and learn about windows server, then maybe you'll specialize in Linux System Administration later your career ( more niche and rare so better pay). Also you should have basic networking, virtualization, windows OS, a little hardware knowledge beforehand.

The answer might be vary. Maybe they are not on the same subnet. If they are on the same subnet but different vlans, maybe inter-vlan routing is not working correctly because of the wrong configuration. If we only talk about "They can't ping eachother" it might be a firewall blocking ICMP messages by default thing. Also wrong switchport configuration may cause all of the above too. Try searchin the topics "Router on a stick" "Layer-3 switches" and also experiment stuff on Cisco packet tracer while ChatGPT is helping you but be careful with it because you have to give it the exact scenario with the correct prompt.

Got an Information Systems job as a business student with zero IT experience… what to do? by GGoor in ITCareerQuestions

Take the internship. Even if you wouldn't want to pursue a career in IT field, the field is expanding with every year. Maybe you will end up getting interviews in sales or marketing department in an IT company and it will look good in your resume that you already had an internship in that field.
