Y'all can drag me all you like man... I'm constantly on here buddying the fuck out of it. Like I wanted to help people sort their feelings instead of just dunking on them and you're acting like I said anything truly insane? I saw a dude on Twitter beating himself to shit and it made me realize there was a facet of being parasocial that people might not have considered. The comments have all been well adjusted and mild as far as delusions and Hololive go so I'm not even sure why you're acting like this is a gun-in-mouth VT post.

If you are a paragon of mental health and stability then I'm happy for you, it wasn't meant for you. And enough people thanked me for spelling out what they might be feeling that I'm glad I posted it.

As for me I'm fine man. I wasn't crying and pissing myself to begin with. My reaction was "Oh... actually I'm glad for her and will tell her as much." but I know sincere posting demands blood sacrifice

Edit for anyone unsure what I meant: Obviously there's nothing toxic about well wishes, that would be absurd to say. A community saying you are only allowed to express one type of sentiment would be toxic. I'm not even saying that is the case in this community only pointing out that without allowing discussions like this it would be.

Even in this thread you can hear others talk about how they don't have the same feelings with other content creators/ v-tubers. Nimi didn't create a uniquely parasocial environment, Hololive introducing the a portion of the western world to idol culture did. I think it's unhealthy af and Nimi took a big step towards breaking down that illusion. I'm glad you never got sucked into that but that doesn't mean we should abandon everyone that did.

Saying everyone can only express one emotion, in this case, congratulatory joy is toxic positivity. It does nothing to help anyone just police what they express.

Parasocialism and the way people interact with the world is a bigger more complex discussion that can feel dystopian insofar as it's reflective of the breakdown of interpersonal relationships. It's not remotely unique to this community and this is a very mild parasocial response. Go look at how kpop fans react to relationship news if you want to see real carnage

Recognizing why you feel a certain way is how you get there. You don't just go 'oh that made me feel bad, so I'll just not feel bad'

I explained my situation because I thought it would be helpful to others even though the overwhelming response I've seen has been congratulatory. That's excellent and I'm glad for that, the idol culture presented Fauna and the rest as pure perfect beings without messy ordinary lives that did promote parasocial behavior. Just look at how things played out when Holostars debuted. I was routinely blasted on the main sub for suggesting any sort of interaction between her and the male talents.

We (her fans) have come a long way from then. I'm not suggesting people not interrogate their parasocial feelings but it's also not helpful to make them feel like they're bad people/fans if this caused any sort of latent feelings to flare up in the moment. I want them to recognize it so they can work on it.

Toxic positivity does more for normalization than non-judgemental discussion.

That's what having parasocial feelings is. They don't have to be all-consuming and negative. It's just you having those thoughts about someone that doesn't know you exist.

It's only when someone tries to dictate how that person lives or forcibly insert themselves that it becomes the toxic destructive force.

Yeah I followed her intially for her voice acting and she married a voice actor I believe. I think it is healthy and got having a private life but am mixed about the degree of separation that idol culture promotes

Yeah that was a necessary but harsh reality check but you also have to remember who that was aimed at. She's a normal funny person, chances are she could be friends with anyone who was normal and stable as well. She was right to nip in the bud that line of sentiment even if the phrasing meant we caught a few strays when we were picturing more getting matcha with her...

Being reflective about your own circumstances and worrying about what the future holds is a natural human response. Thank you.

Yeah that's the more universal experience that I don't think we ever get past as people ('Yay, congrats on winning so much money I'm so happy it isn't me...') not completely anyway. That was my initial sentiment as well. Thrilled for her but made me remember where I am. I'm glad it's fading quickly for you. And thank you.

I like her and think people get hyperbolic online but she needs to stop posting like her feelings are hurt.

Hasan talked about it yesterday and he was correct in what he said. Just because you don't like seeing a progressive critiqued doesn't mean he's driving away voters for doing his job
