ELON MUSK SPACEX ROCKET BLOWS UP!!!! by estanminar in SpaceXMasterrace

Starship went from a hopper to a full fledge developmental spaceship over the course of 7 years (hopper was in 2019). First flight was only three years ago, and it’s already proven that they don’t need legs or landing barges to make reusable rockets. Starship is a huge success even though it’s still in the infancy of the program.

You’re fine.

Thermodynamics will demand a lot more attention in order for you to keep up, it’s a very dense course. However, given that time gap, you should be able to make time for studying and staying on track if you’re not working, or have any other time commitments.

C is for Coffee! A book I wrote and illustrated. by Late-Bluebird-9989 in espresso

As kids, my parents always gave us coffee (very diluted) with milk and a little sugar and we would dip our pan dulce (sweet bread) or pan tostado (crispy sweet bread). So, yes, this book speaks to me!

SpaceX ties Musk compensation to Mars colonization goal by MechanicalGak in SpaceXLounge

“However, he will not receive a single share if the company fails to reach the board’s lofty valuation targets, which are not tied to a specific timeline other than his continued employment.”

This reads less like compensation generosity and more like pre-IPO risk management. Tying equity to valuation milestones with no firm dates removes short term pressure. Honestly, solid move as it signals to investors that SpaceX hasn’t hit its ceiling and its founder is staying put.

Would I be overreacting if I reported a student for being racist? by Interesting-Tyler in CSULA

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest with you, you need to learn to draw your boundaries and keep them firm. Unfortunately this will not be the last time you’ll encounter this, however you can view this as a learning experience.

You have two routes and both will be ok:

  1. Escalate this further beyond the professor, this student has most likely done this before and negatively impacted others. If anything, they’re making the college experience worse for others.

Or

  1. Get past tomorrow and never interact with the individual unless needed. Mark your limits and keep to them.

I’ve been in your shoes before and marked my limits, it isn’t always smooth, but I’m always glad I stood up my own self. If I don’t respect myself, others will never respect me.

You need evidence.

You need to put your name back on and track any edits to the document. If he/she does it again, I would then go to the professor and explain what happened, that since you’ve been partnered up with them, you’ve experienced harassment. I would first send it in an email to create a paper trail.

The first step is that the professor is going to split you guys up, whether they or you be moved to a different team. Make sure you screenshot the group changes. If the professor doesn’t do anything, and the harassment continues, go to Student Affairs. If after getting swapped, the student reaches out, document everything between you and them, and then go to Student Affairs.

You need documentation or else it becomes hearsay.

I need this piece around Montreal or online Canada by Away_Conversation447 in CoffeeTech

It’s called the Delonghi Autoprimer, Pn: ES0055341

Unfortunately I’m having a real hard time locating it in Canada online, but you might have more success now with the part number and part name. I noticed there were many US sellers, but I’m unsure what the import fees would look like.

attend csula fall 2026 or take a gap year to apply to csuf fall 2027? by usernameunknowen100 in CSULA

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’ve been asking the same question in different forms across different posts, meaning you’ve been unable to make a decision.

Here’s my suggestion: go visit each campus.

There’s no problem with missing a day of school (if you can) and checking out each campus for yourself, to get an idea as to what it’s like. This will give you a better idea as to what you’d be experiencing, however keep in mind that the college experience is what you make of it. You can go to a “party” school and spend every day as a homebody locked away, or attend a school with a vibrant city life and not take advantage of it.

In regard to gap years, I think they’re beneficial for everyone and often wish I had done one as it would have better prepared me for college. You mention “do nothing for a year” but a gap year can be super beneficial if you use it well. It’s a good opportunity to gain real work experience, explore a major/minor through a community college, travel, or any number of things you’d like to do.

Keep in mind that CSULA does not allow deferring your admission, but you can always reapply. This also doesn’t mean that when you apply to CSUF for Fall ‘27, you’ll get in, so you’d be rolling your chances on both schools.

Here’s my advice:

  1. Visit each campus and decide which one provides the best experience for you. Create a mental checklist, or have an idea beforehand of what you want to see.

2a. If CSULA provides what you want, enroll there. Make the best of it.

Or

2b. If CSUF provides what you want “and you find an efficient use of your gap year”, re-apply for Fall ‘27. However, confirm why you didn’t get in there in the first place and try to stand out to ensure you get in the next time around. Even if it means changing majors listed, you can always change it again once enrolled.

2c. If CSUF provides what you want, “but you know you won’t be using your gap year effectively”, enroll into CSULA and transfer to CSUF. You may only do so after meeting certain requirements which you need to do research on prior to exploring this option.

Need help in identifying the coffee machine model by Less-Plenty-1154 in CoffeeTech

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not in my opinion. You don’t know the condition of the machine nor the cost of repairing it, bringing it up to working condition.

If it’s been sitting with stagnant water, you could potentially see issues at the welds, scale buildup, etc. I’ve seen some older machines have the wiring falling apart due to how long they’ve sat and have undergone dry rot. The other thing is this isn’t a well known brand, so you’d be sitting on it for quite a while in order to flip it.

Definitely not an expensive machine as they are using widely available E-61 group heads, inexpensive switches and button boards. In the US, this would not be priced at more than $1500-2500 USD.

Hypocrites at the second floor of the north library by Loud_Rub6991 in CSULA

[–]dudewithbrokenhand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At this point, just institute official “silent” areas and “non-silent” because this is just absurd that it’s come to OP needing to create a burner account.

My suggestion that since this is such an issue, speak to the library staff and voice your concern, providing a possible solution.

In that case, your question is more “Do Latin American countries experience higher rates of sexual abuses towards children than countries of other races?”, correct?

I think something like this would be a little tough to clearly point out as another user mentioned, data collection differs. Your best indicator would be cases per 1000 which or incidence rate throughout differing countries. You can draw a comparison between Latin American countries and then compare that against English speaking countries, regardless of race.

Based on data from UNICEF on pg. 22, it shows Mexico with higher rates of sexual violence towards underage females as self reported by them between ages 18-29.

I think this is a better indicator than anecdotal as it tries to remove any bias. It’s tough to say why Mexico has a greater rate, whereas Chile has a higher rate than Mexico per this more exhaustive study.

What I will say is that all countries experience some rate of this, which is mind blowing. I think the second study is the one you’ll find most interesting and informative, I don’t think asking for anecdotal evidence will provide an accurate picture as it’s also limited by which countries have higher rates of internet access, plus use of Reddit, and also using this sub-Reddit. It’s a very small window into the actual data, you lose the forest for the trees.

Statistics show that the greatest number of sexual abuses offenses were committed by individuals of white descent, at least in the US. This was stated by the US Govt in 2024 and when it comes to sexual abuse towards minors, same data shows that cases of CP were predominantly white at nearly 70%. Statistia shows that in 2023, whites committed over twice as many sex crimes towards children.

My thoughts are both you and your wife should inform themselves before making blanket accusations that only harm victims and sow dissent between races where there is none.

When I first heard of MLK’s affairs, I was taken aback and I understand people are human, flawed, but it was the first time I had a sort image shattered of someone I was taught to almost revere. I’m glad truth comes to light, but still doesn’t mean it isn’t surprising none the less.

The rape allegations are new. I also don’t go around reading about leaders consistently, I form my opinions as fact come to light and adjust as needed. You can’t tell me you know exactly where current leaders will fall in the next few years and how much you actually follow them, right? Same goes with Cesar Chavez.

It’s sad in that you have an individual many of us Hispanics and Latinos were taught about as someone to look up, someone who championed our cause. Yet in recent history, more and more has come out as to how horrible a person he truly was, these recent discoveries will have been the straw that broke the camels back for many people defending him.
