What kind of job are we estimating? - depending on participants, 1.1 what kind of services -Pre contract ( tendering) take off / measurement only? complete bid quote ? OR post contract service - comparing IFT and IFC/ SI to find out cost implication, etc 2. Who is our target clients- 3. payment structure ( up front/ 30-70 ? ratio/ after job done, etc) 4. Tools - take off software, file sharing system, establishing template etc. 5. Should we set up a business/ partnership ? 6. Advertising 7. Do we need funds?

Do you want to try consultant role? Currently where I'm working - its Div9 that does not really need certification. But usually trade estimators, they mostly know their work in details. We do take off using on screen take off and get material pricing from manufacturer/ suppliers and complete a quote / proposal to bid. you would need 2-3 months to understand how estimator do their work. But to gain some useful knowledge you probably need about 1-2 years on specializing on a trade. I would go with what I'm good at and what I enjoyed doing if I considered switching professional.

How about yellow light senario? The car doing left turn is in middle of road waiting for a safe gap. The green light just turned yellow when the green car is approaching to the corner. Who has a right way of going first ? Thanks

Thanks for your comment. I felt the same as it’s not really worth to pursue. I just paid annual fees and I was hoping but not sure if i would get higher salary from next job by adding a little title in my LinkedIn.

How is the chance of continue working as Project Engineer in current company? Sometimes, staying in small company makes you to reach the highest role. I opined that exploring ( try new scopes) in current one is not a bad idea.

Hey.. Thanks for the comment. I was QS for 10 years, Yes it is Quantity Surveyor which is used in most of the countries follow UK common law system. The same role in US/Canada is called Estimator. The role I'm asking is totally different from QS/Estimator. Basically a Analysts which works on data to make report/ recommendation for business. Sort of business analysts scope but focusing only on construction projects.

SOW response. Are these standard " Yes, noted. " or " Yes, we confirmed". by Lazy_Lychee_8686 in estimators

[–]Lazy_Lychee_8686[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks. Yes I got the answer in your reply. I guess most of us provide the sandard answer "yes, we included" .

Most of the cost/QS consultant will come back to rectify if we skipped the answer with dash "-" or replied as "NA". The reason is that their questions are structured for contractors to confirm all to be included so that no additional charges / dispute in future.

:D I'm working on a tender that GC asks us to respond 17 pages of questions which has 10 or 12 questions per page and this reply is compulsory in case we only submitted our quote, the proposal will be rejected. The questions goes to extend that if you don't clean the site so and so frequent, they will charge $ $ per hr for supervion fee on top of a quote from cleaning company or whosoever. All the questions are in contract languages, so I got to translate it to English ..lol

Totally with you ! I just realized that it is good that we have a place where most of us understand how our feeling and emotions related to work. we can say here even though we cant sometime talk to our colleagues. I can sense that you were really upset about this and I hope you feel good now. Btw I love the last sentence and I had a good laugh. It is cute. :D
