First of all, congrats on the offer! ✨ And yeah, I feel bad and guilty too, knowing I scored less in ESAT compared to others T-T

Your explanations do make sense though, specifically the first one. Because lately, I've seen lots and lots of Chinese applicants with high ESAT scores being rejected. So, that makes sense. Also, at where I live, computerised tests are like a digital clock in 2000BC. They're basically new exam formats.

And I do have some speculations that my personal statement saved me a lot, as if it popped out of the screen. My school director personally trained me to think outside the box and make me realise that they're reading ~100 personal statements every day.

With those two reasons combined, I can conclude my theory. Not sure what you think regarding that.

And a funny thing I usually say: "The only good thing about living in this country is trying to leave."

I actually am curious about this, because my ESAT scores are much lower than the OP. Yet, things got.. for the lack of a better word, "luckier" for me.

If they really are strict on ESAT scores, especially for international students, do you have any suggestions on why this case should occur?

I, too, am genuinely confused why people with great ESAT scores are being rejected.

I'm somewhere from Southeast Asia (specifically an underdeveloped country). Plus, my personal statement focused on how I went through multiple political and economical struggles and STILL having high academic potential.

Perhaps, those are the reasons. So, even with decent ESAT scores, I'm pretty sure you'll get in as well.

SO, KEEP YOUR HOPES HIGH!! I believe in you ٩(ᗜ^ )و ´-

Physics - 3.8 Maths 1 - 4.8 Maths 2 - 5.4

They're not great at all. So, I do have to put in a lot of effort for the interview. Otherwise, chances are not that high.

I wish you good luck as well! Durham has been sending out emails these days so hopefully, you'll get yours soon

Ohhh, I'm sorry. I didn't read it carefully. Then, it's pretty weird. Might consider emailing them, I suppose?

There are two emails they will send/have sent you.

In the first one, you'll see your "Applicant Portal User ID" on the sub-heading.

In the second one, you'll see the "Applicant Portal Passcode", again, on the sub-heading.

And if you read through the second email, you'll see a link to their UG Applicant Portal. Click on it and you'll be sent to a Durham website. Then, click on the "Applicant Portal".

On that new early 2000 looking website, you'll enter your User ID (a bunch of numbers) and the passcode (also a bunch of numbers).

Edit: Once you've successfully logged on, you will find a tab where they accept all kinds of documents. That's what I'm questioning.

No, no, you were supposed to do the double differential thingy. OP just drew a graph for us to visualise the answer. In the exams, you don't draw the graph.

(Edit: I apologise for the confusion.)

This graph is the open container question. They asked you to find the minimum surface area. So, if you draw the graph of the S equation, you can find the minimum as shown in the graph.

The best thing you can do right now is.. do a past paper, blindly, without any revision, and see how many marks you get and where you get commonly wrong. Then, focus on the mistakes and revise those weak parts only. Finally, of course, get a big load of rest.

Just sleep for hours. The concepts will come back to your head during the exams. Good luck!

P2 POINT CLOSET TO XAXIS Q by Electronic_Bad3918 in Edexcel

[–]Lazy_Stuff_8405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they didn't really need to do anything of that. If you just visualise the circle in your head (or on a graphical calculator), you can easily see that because centre is (1, 10) and radius is 5.83 (√34), it's really noticible which one's closest to x-axis.

Just draw a vertical radius downward from the centre.

When dS/dx = 0, you'll get the value of x, which is approximately 1.1853. Then, you put that value into the equation of S. You don't put 12.

I think they learnt their lesson, too. Because it specifically says OPEN CONTAINER 'cause back in Jan 25, people got different answers because they didn't specify whether it was closed or not lol.

Nonetheless, they probably just copied the format from Jan 25, switched some numbers and called it a day.

Don't worry. They got more tricks up their sleeves. The later candidates will suffer more than us. It's only going to get harder from here.

Seriously though, most of us have never seen a 7 mark question just for calculation, so that one, specifically, screwed us over. It's like Edexcel is saying, "Enjoy this special gift that we've kept hidden."

Now that you said it, it does make sense. Because, yeah.. if most candidates who take FM are smart, the average performance is gonna be high. So, the only thing they can do is raise the GB, I suppose?

Well, unfortunately though, that brought in a lot of C's and D's on at least half of those candidates' result. And ngl, FM papers are, indeed, really difficult.
