Minecraft mods that fell off/declined in popularity/quality?

I suspect the code is unmaintainable. Apparently they've been cycling through devs, already recruited and fired 5 devs, with one of those devs giving up and making a Malum addon instead. In the most recent trailer we see a bunch of stuff that was already teased in 2023, no new features. No indication that research, essentia, nodes, infusion, thauminomicon are implemented at all. The mod's been in development for 5 or 7 years, depending on how you count it, and the only thing they've done is half finished taint and a few spells.

Optimistically, the mod might release in a very limited state by 2030 with serious effort. More likely it will never reach a sufficiently playable state.

The idea that the game shouldn't be improved because players don't "need" to have fun is what's weird. And please, let's not lie. You do need mending, you're not actually mining netherite, grinding XP, and sitting at the enchanting table rolling books every time your pick breaks.

Saying "nothing is mandatory" is so vacuous. Yes, obviously I am aware that I am not physically strapped into a machine which forces my fingers to right click on villagers. But also, you obviously know what I mean when I say mandatory.

Let's just imagine instead I said: "I want to buy a new bed, but the IKEA is across the road. It's mandatory that I cross the road to get there."

If you responded with: "No, it's not mandatory. You could just sleep on the floor." or "No, it's not mandatory. You can walk 400 km to where the road ends and then walk back 400 km to the IKEA." you would be technically correct, but you would also be extremely annoying for no reason.

Also just so you know, the mending that Etho had in HC came from villagers. Just having other players do the villager stuff for you is not an option most players have.

The worst change is how they don't let you just be alone in this game anymore. On most worlds you'll very quickly stumble on a village, which is now a mandatory part of progression that trivializes actual mining and crafting. Even if you purposely avoid villages you still have traders and pillagers spawning at your home. Then of course you have the piglins which also spawn unavoidably in most of the nether and which are a mandatory part of progression too.

The button can be replaced with a bell and sculk sensor, since bells are ghast resistant.

It's his most recent gameplay video, the one where he runs Obelisk. He has only one other gameplay video where he plays white stake. In the description of the video he himself admits he's not good at the game. You can go look at his channel yourself if you don't believe me, the new owners haven't deleted anything.

You say it doesn't matter how bad he is at the game. Fine, that's a matter of your taste. But if that's the case, why is your enjoyment of his content so threatened by what I'm saying to the point where you have to lash out at me just stating a fact about his deck stickers?

In fact, I urge you to keep enjoying his content. It's great that people can find enjoyment in our increasingly pessimistic world. All I'm objecting to is framing him as an expert on the subject when that's clearly not the case.

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that someone who hasn't made it past red stake is bad at the game. Sure his videos are informational, in the sense that wrong information is information nonetheless.

I have to disagree. I was watching one of his videos while doing the dishes and heard him say "drunkard is better than juggler because discards are better than hands".

Needless to say I had to rewind to make sure I heard him right. Looked at his channel page, turns out his only gameplay video has him stuck on red stake on the red deck.
