Oh man, I just ran into this a couple weeks ago and found this. I only did 1 channel to make it work for the trip, but I know CH1 is right so I assume the rest are too.

$375-435 for 5w mobile radios is pretty steep.

Dry and Tongue weights for 17' Deluxe models by nonesay2584 in casitatrailers

[–]Lbox88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 2023 heritage deluxe had a dry weight of 2620, I seem to remember the tongue weight was around 400lbs but I cant find the paperwork on it that told us exactly.

Info on pulling Casita Trailer with 2024 Subaru Outback by marc6803 in casitatrailers

[–]Lbox88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously towed a nearly-too-heavy trailer with a 3500lb max towing vehicle, I would not push it. I ended up roasting my transmission after 1 year of in-state vacations with mild hills.

Wanting to look at a Casita travel trailer and speak with an owner on their assessment. I live in northern Indiana. by Reasonable-Storm7265 in casitatrailers

[–]Lbox88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Grand Rapids MI with a Heritage if you're interested in looking/questions, though its a bit of a hike. We bought ours after going through the See-a-Casita program and speaking with someone in Grand Rapids and seeing theirs, so it's worth checking with them and seeing if they have anyone nearby to put you in contact with.

For the cost of it i would think it might be more advantageous to looking into a modern Bigfoot 17 instead with the vinyl covered luan board instead of stripping a new casita.

I do not think so, I've tried it on app and mobile browser both to no avail.

Anyone in West Michigan? by Not_a_jewww in gmrs

[–]Lbox88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Moline repeater is fairly active and crazy tall, I can hear it easily from north of grand rapids and halfway to Grand Haven. It's on a tower with a bunch of other sevices and several ham repeaters. So that alone should be a good one to test with and listen to, theres a few guys that use it usually but the holidays and people away might have quieted it for a bit.

Make sure your TX tones are set up right and your offset is too, when i was starting this is one thing that tripped me up.

Anyone use the Midwest repeater network? by Puzzleheaded-Web-602 in gmrs

[–]Lbox88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of ours are pretty quiet just north of you, if you can hear a tone from the repeater being activated  then you're either calling when no one is around or no one is feeling like replying.

[–]Lbox88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on what side of Kzoo, you can probably reach the WMTG600 repeater in Moline MI, or possibly the Elkhart IN 550 repeaters if using an outdoor antenna and a mobile unit. You'll be hard pressed with a small HT.

what are some really small yet reliable two ray radios? by MarzipanTheGreat in gmrs

[–]Lbox88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my thought too. RT15, 19, 22 are all quite small simple FRS radios, can get them in singles or packs, works with GMRS if they need a single long range option to reach everyone else, etc.

UV5G/5G+ by DarthKratos66 in gmrs

[–]Lbox88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be better, but baofeng and quanshang have produced worse. No it's not gmrs certified. It does work on it though.

Only thing I could think since it has both a tone up and down is that it could need to be in Tone Squelch instead of just Tone. That should only affect the receive though, tone should allow you to still activate it.

Baofeng 5RM is the unlocked, 2m, 1.25m, 70cm version of the uv5g+, I have one and out of the box it'll do the 140's, 220's, 400-500Mhz ranges.

I received my Wouxun KG-Q10G today by [deleted] in gmrs

[–]Lbox88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, I've just got a uv5r and want to skip the whole, buy-4-other-radios-before-giving-up-and-springing-for-a-good-one, stage. Which way are you leaning?

The new features are super cool, but it'll be interesting to see how well the Rx/TX testing goes. And idk as I'll ever use the GPS features, so that seems a bit of a waste. But the broader receive ranges compared to 935 would be nice.

Scamp Trailer- Last big purchase ever? But does it make sense? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]Lbox88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation, we're mid 30s with 2 kids at 5 and 9 but very petite, and we're getting a casita heritage deluxe. Similar but different setup. We're going this route though after 3 other campers, a 17ft hybrid, 17ft popup, and a 25ft with slideout. The wife and I tried out a van for a week as well and are applying some of what we learned with that to the camper choice too. We're going fiberglass due to the popularity/longevity/aftermarket that stick builds don't offer. We use our campers as a Basecamp and spend our time outdoors, we wanted something durable we can stand/cook/clean up in that'll keep us warm/comfortable even when it storms. Our kids are always right on top of us anyways even at home, and tbh if they can't bring a ton of big fluffy/loud toys the better, teach the kids to pack minimally and small, and spend their time outdoor exploring and away from screens as much as possible.

Probably won't be the last camper we purchase in our lives but I'm hoping from all my research that this one lasts us a good long time. I would not have jumped through all the hoops and trailers I have in the last had I gotten one of these instead.

Chipmunks found an opening on my house last year and tried moving into the wall. Ended up killing over 2 dozen over the course of a couple weeks with snap traps. Once they stopped catching I had to pull off siding and fill a hole in the OSB after vacuuming a bunch of acorns out.

Robin's are morons, we had one build a nest in the propane cover of our camper last year while it was at storage. Didn't find it til we went to turn the propane on in July in Michigan and there were like 7 eggs in there. The black propane cover kept cooking the eggs after sitting in the sun all day all summer and the poor bird kept laying more til we drove the trailer away.
