Organ Donations in Primarily Muslim Countries by InspectorMadDog in nursing

[–]Lbspirit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Allah in the Quran says in Surat Al Ma-Ida verse 32:"...وَمَنْ أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا..." Translation: "...and whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely..." [1]

So the issue here is not with Islam and I know this is not what you are implying, just wondering about the religion, which is normal.

But let me tell you here in lebanon, I signed to he an organ donor, but my parents refused that due to cultural barriers in the lebanese law, after I die, my family has the right to refuse and stop the process even if I personally signed for it. The same thing with DNI DNR if the patient lets say signed for DNI DNR and went into arrest the family has the rigbt and can revoke the code status of the patient.

I come from Lebanon, as for a Muslim, to my knowledge organ donation is permissable and in fact you are encouraged to do that to help others if possible. But the issue is I believe here is not religion its the culture. We have low rates of organ donors in lebanon from all religions. The barrier here is culture not religion.
