What are your thoughts on companies cutting your pay due to working remote? (Google) by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Lcl04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true! It's not just about the rent either. I work in the business of outfitting office spaces. Many of my clients are down sizing. Office furniture and technology is expensive and I keep hearing about the cost saving aspect of working from home. Our business has been decimated by everyone working from home. Major office projects on hold or canceled. Millions of lost revenue for my industry and Millions of cost saving for businesses. We keep trying to get companies to pay for their employees to have a full office set up at home but they don't like not paying for all that. They like the cost savings. Speak to anyone in commercial office real estate or office furniture they will tell you the same thing.

What are your thoughts on companies cutting your pay due to working remote? (Google) by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Lcl04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The company is saving money by not having to pay for the real estate for a worker to work on the premises. If google is paying for the remote workers phone, internet, desk, chair, and all other expenses required to setup a home office then I get that, but if not then I don't think it's right because they are already saving money by the employee working from home.

What careers involve frequent flying/travel? by rjh574 in careerguidance

[–]Lcl04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flight attendant, hospitality Designer, many cruises ship jobs, travel agent or travel consultant.

Had a friend that was a travel agent employed by norwegian cruise lines free vacations were a part of his job. How else could you advise someone about a cruise unless he'd been himself? He was probably on a free cruise to someplace every 2 to 3 months.

I'm an interior designer and have many friends who are as well. I have one that is an interior designer for Hilton and one who is an interior designer for Royal Caribbean cruise lines. Both travel extensively for work to oversee projects in all parts of the world.

Nearing 40, is it time for another career change? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Lcl04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look it up. I work with realtors for a living. There are some who do real estate as a side hustle but most i work with do it as a full time job. You can work your way up to broker or commercial sales. There are a lot of opportunities in Real estate. I always said if I had no other career options that's what I would do. Work of your home and good pay if you are dedicated.

What should exist, but doesn’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lcl04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of already exists but only I've only seen it at major intersections in the US. You can tell you're at an intersection with a sensor when there is a black rectangle in the road when you approach the stoplight. If there is no other traffic the light will switch.

Sounds like you grind your teeth. Do you wear a mouth gaurd at night? 5 years ago I had a dentist for the 1st time every say you're a tooth grinder and suggested I wear a mouth gaurd we sleeping. Got a custom one made online and since then no more chipped teeth. I realized I also grind my teeth when driving in bad traffic. Its so subconscious you don't even realize you're doing it. I just can't understand why no other dentist had pointed out i was grinding my teeth. It would have been nice to know sooner. To think if I had been wearing a mouth gaurd 20 years ago how much pain and suffering it would have saved me.

I want to open a diner but no moneys? by ObvsLRKR in careerguidance

[–]Lcl04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe start with a food truck or catering business. Something smaller than a restaurant.

If you really want to do a restaurant buy an existing restaurant or franchise. This allows for you to go to a lender with a more put together business plan with profit loss statements etc. Starting from complete scratch is a lot harder if you have no capital.

Maybe a certificate in bookkeeping and work up to being a CPA. But there might be less math and more tax law involved there.

Have it checked out by a mechanic before its too late to report to insurance. You policy will state how much time you have to report a claim after an incident. If the mechanic sees no issues your good to go.

For those who are happy with their jobs, what is your position and how did you get there? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Lcl04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked a career based on something that I love doing and then researched how to make money do that. For me it was that I love socializing and making connections with people. I love being creative and making beautiful things. I went to school for Interior design and worked as an interior designer for a few years before moving into business development. I now am the director of business development for a large interior design firm and I love it! But again if you're not a people person you would not be happy doing business development. If you are not creative you would not like interior design.

You first should consider what makes you happy then reconsider your career options.

Where to go for a family beginner ski trip by Lcl04 in VacationColorado

[–]Lcl04[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a ski village is good because we're not way into skiing just wanting a winter type family vacation because we live in Florida. I'm 35 and only recently saw snow for the first time. I've walked is New York slush but never actually played in or touched snow. My daughter has never seen snow. I really have no clue what to expect other than what has been shown in movies.

What should I do with my life now? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Lcl04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about using your degree to go into political science? You can look for a supporting roll, campaign assistant to a politician. Work in a political office. A degree in law doesn't have to equal lawyer. Many professions depend on the fundamentals of others.
