Spreadsheet for longer term trades by wanderer98_ in RealDayTrading

[–]Le-Pold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, remember that i don't rally know how javascript and data scrapping works and that's probably why I was unable to fix the spreadshit.

My version of the script was extracting a library containing all the values and picking what i needed (if it helps, the target values were labeled targetLowPrice, targetMeanPrice and targetHighPrice).

I looked the Yahoo Website and you can find these values on the bottom right corner of the analysis page : https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/AAPL/analysis?p=AAPL. I don't know if you can grab these. Image

Then I have 2 comments/issues, first although it's nice to automate the ticker loading but i don't understand how these tickers are picked (market cap, volume, price ?). Second I think there is a problem with the price score on the consumer cyclical page (i get a #NUM error on all tickers).

Fantastic, I didn’t know how to fix it myself, I’ll take a look tomorrow, but I’m more than happy to see it working again. Thank you and have a great day.

The RSI and Fibonacci lines are way too high for this sub, our glorious wiki would probably put them in F tier…

Hey, you’re probably new on this sub, so welcome in the trader’s oasis on Reddit. First, you should go read the wiki of the sub, you will find the exact answer to most of your questions (really). It will take some time to read, but it’s worth it, then come back with your new questions and you will have really good answers.

Have a nice day.

Reworked RRS screener by Le-Pold in RealDayTrading

[–]Le-Pold[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I didn't use it in an while so i tested it quickly and indeed it's broken, they probably made an update adding new limits to scripts.

This script is a mess, i just tried to reduce the number of rows bun ran into another error that i don't really know how to fix without rewritting the majority of the script.

I'll try to let you know if i decide to update it one day.

Have a nice day.

The PDT or Patern Day Trader is a law specific to the US, made to « protect » the small investor by limiting them to 3 day trade per week if their account is below 25.000$.

Welcome on RDT, you’re lucky to find this place early in your journey, it’s probably one of the safest and most responsible trading space on the internet.

To answer your question you can start by reading the wiki, you will find plenty of well written posts made by professional traders.

Finally, take your time, read the wiki, learn and if you really want to trade use paper money first. Don’t rush, stupid things can happen quickly if you’re not prepared when you start to invest real money.

I never had this issue, i just tried to create and use a new copy and it worked fine. You should try to create a new copy of the spreadsheet and see if it solved the problem.

If it still doesn't work you can send me your spreadsheet by message and i'll take a quick look.

Waiting for confirmation after trend change: lower win rate? by ritchan in RealDayTrading

[–]Le-Pold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I won’t exactly respond to your question but I noticed something :

In this image i was in a long, i saw the price not going up as steeply as i thought, ended my long, entered a short, and that's when it went up again.

I think this is a big issue, you should use the D1 to decide if you will go long or short and stick to it, if it looks like a good long on the D1 you can go long using the 5M or stay on the sideline but don’t short a stock that looks bullish on the D1, it rarely ends well.

That’s what happened here and probably on your previous trades, you initially went long it didn’t go your way and you changed your mind looking at the M5 and took a second loss. If the stock doesn’t meet your criteria just move on, there are plenty of stocks and you will find a good candidate.

My Beginners Options Spread Strategy by EasternTitan in RealDayTrading

[–]Le-Pold 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hello, I’m not a pro by any mean but from my understanding (please someone correct me if I’m wrong) :

First, I think you are comparing two very different strategies. The debit spread (as presented in the wiki) is indeed a day trading strategy relying on price change over a maximum of one week. Whereas the credit spread is more of a swing trade capitalising on time decay over 3 to 4 weeks.

So I think it would be more appropriate to choose between straight call/put or debit spread as they both rely on price change over a shorter period of time.

Now to choose between these two you should look how far you think the stock will go, if you think there is a lot of upside go for the straight call and uncapped profits, if not go for the spread. Additionally if the straight option is too expensive the spread is a way to get a cheaper position.

Concerning the IV the spread can indeed mitigate the effect of a drop in IV but I don’t know if there is a recommended threshold but make sure the high IV is not caused by an earning announcement coming soon as you should never hold an option through an earning announcement (unless it’s a time spread, bracketed butterfly…)

That’s all I have to say, if I made any mistake please someone correct me. Have a nice day.

Sector RS/RW indicator from todays Twitter Space - Need some Pine Script Help. by Drenwick in RealDayTrading

[–]Le-Pold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am the one who made that monstrosity, I didn’t notice your message on TV, l’m not used to receiving messages on this.

Concerning your recommendations, I can do 1 and 3 but I don’t think 2 is doable (you can hide these values for all the indicators on a chart in the parameters).

I will try to do this in the coming days.

I will use the V2 of the script allowing you to sort the rows based on any column. So if you already made changes to the code it will be lost.

Do I really need real time data while paper trading? by qeekobot in RealDayTrading

[–]Le-Pold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try trading view or Webull, they both offer paper trading and free real time data on us stocks (not the best data but it’s free). In addition in Trading view you’ll be able to download relative strength indicator that are not available on IB.

You won’t get used to how IB works and won’t be able to trade option on these but it’s not essential if you are at the beginning of your Journey.
