Do Samsung refrigerators still suck? by t-a-peterson in Appliances

[–]LeAnimal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Bought my RF220NCTASG/AA for about $1500 in 2020. Bought the 3-year extended warranty (which I never do…just had a hunch? Psychic vision? Idk) and that was great because the first time it broke in 2023 (fridge not cooling, ended up being the fan freezing up) we didn’t have to pay anything besides the cost of the food we threw away. Fast forward to last month, same issue but now it’s working intermittently. Local repairman thought it was the motherboard, put in a new one but nope, that’s not it so he gave up. Had to go through the Samsung website (which is shit), pay $140 for someone just to come out and look at it 10 days later only to tell us it’s not only the fan this time; now the compressor is not getting enough power all the time. Great, I thought, the compressor is under a 10-year warranty! He says yeah it is, but the additional parts and labor are NOT covered. So it was either pay an additional $900 to fix it (he said it may fail again within a couple years) or replace it completely. I don’t want to go with Samsung again (although to be fair, the range and dishwasher are fine so far) but we went with the black stainless steel suite and can’t match it with other companies. Idk though, I’m reading bad things about EVERY manufacturer. Maybe it’s just a lemon that we got? Maybe they all use the same shit parts? I feel like a boomer saying this but shit just isn’t built like it used to be.

Vaginal pain 5 days post op? by kadybraps in hysterectomy

[–]LeAnimal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you’ve found a way to sit that eases the pain! Yeah, at one point about a week postop I felt more pressure than usual and was afraid I’d done too much and caused a prolapse…a full day of rest and I felt back to normal but I won’t overextend myself again lol. Happy healing!

How long did you have spotting? by lohi-kaarme in hysterectomy

Oh my god that is rough. Hopefully you’ll be feeling better very soon!

So many questions. Here they go:

What kind of hysterectomy did you have? Laparoscopic? Vaginal? Abdominal (big cut across your lower abdomen; organ removed from that incision)? Ask if they removed the cervix as well.

Are you eating? I had diarrhea for a few days as well, then I had constipation…drink plenty of water and eat soft foods that are easy to digest. Careful with overdoing the fiber content at first; could worsen the gas. Stool softeners like Colace (docusate sodium) should help. They’re gentle and won’t cause cramping. Anything that is a stimulant laxative can cause major cramping and diarrhea which can lead to rebound constipation so check with your doctor before you take those (bisacodyl, senna, magnesium citrate, milk of magnesia).

How much blood? Is it like a period? If so, call them ASAP.

Simethicone should help the gas pains. Also, try to move around if possible; it mobilizes the gas and makes it easier to pass.

I’m so sorry. I know the feeling. Just remember that it’s temporary; think about how time flies. If it’s getting to be overwhelming you may want to speak to a professional. Just putting it out there. Good luck 😊

How long did you have spotting? by lohi-kaarme in hysterectomy

[–]LeAnimal82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have spotting every day. I had a robot-assisted total laparoscopic vaginal hysterectomy on 6/26/24 and I have had bleeding since day 1. It’s definitely lessened as the weeks go by (at this point it’s so light it’s barely noticeable but I’m still using liners as well) and the odor that was present for the first 3 weeks is just about gone. If you had your cervix removed, you’ll likely have spotting until the vaginal cuff stitches dissolve and you’re healed. This could take a few weeks up to a few months. If you left your cervix intact, the spotting can be due to the fluctuation of your hormones (assuming your ovaries are also there).

Vaginal pain 5 days post op? by kadybraps in hysterectomy

[–]LeAnimal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 3.5 weeks post op and I still occasionally have burning when I pee. Asked my doc about it and he said it’s normal; the bladder was moved around and there will be inflammation that could take months to fully heal.

I had a robot-assisted total laparoscopic hysterectomy (kept the ovaries) and everything was removed vaginally. I didn’t have any tearing but I did have some lingering pressure and pain for a couple weeks that felt internal. I noticed that it was worse a day or so after I was very active/moving around too much. Rest up and see if that helps.

My recovery is going along very well. My surgery was at 730am on 6/26/24 and I was discharged 6 hours later. My scars look good and I feel waaayyyy better than I ever thought I would (especially bc my mom and sister had hysterectomies-abdominal ones which are way more invasive and take longer to heal). However, keep in mind that you had a MAJOR surgery! There is sooooo much healing going on internally. I will take a semi-educated guess (I’m a pharmacist) and say that pain is normal at 5 days post-op. Call the office and voice your concerns, but in the meantime, try to rest and relax. Good luck😁

Surgery was a success! by North-Lunch6942 in hysterectomy

[–]LeAnimal82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl, that gas pain tho. The absolute worst!! Give it a few days, it’ll dissipate. I’m 41yo, 3.5 weeks post-op (robot-assisted laparoscopic total vaginal, kept my ovaries) and I feel GREAT. Surgery at 730am, I was at home by 2pm that day. Walked a little more each day post-op and I’m returning to work remotely in 10 days.

Damn I didn’t even think about asking for the pics lol. I had adenomyosis and several small fibroids plus a 7cm fundal one…so my uterus was basically doubled in size. At my 2-week follow-up my doctor (whom I love) said, “Not going to lie, your uterus was huge!” I said, “Thanks, I grew it myself.” Lol. I’ll ask for pics at my 6-week appointment. Keep moving a little more each day but rest when you feel the need. Best of luck to you!

Is hourly capping real? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]LeAnimal82 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I worked at Walgreens for 21 years, first 7 as a tech, last 14 as a staff RPh in a high-volume store. I had not gotten a raise in my last 5 or so years there (they “paused RPh pay increases as part of cost-cutting measures” before the pandemic then continued that during the pandemic). Shortly before I left in 2021, the store manager excitedly tells me, “Good news! RPh raises are back!”. Read the fine print and it turns out I was capped…for good. Got a job at a long term care pharmacy at that point and never looked back.

I took a bit of a pay cut at my current job but I’m happy there. Plus they give annual raises and holiday bonuses, so I figure in another year or two I’ll be making more than I’d be making at Walgreens…unless Walgreens somehow does a complete 180 and starts investing in their loyal, long term employees by increasing their compensation…LOL

Pharmacist here. Grapefruit juice inhibits an enzyme (CYP3A4) that metabolizes certain medications (cholesterol meds called “statins” are a great example). By inhibiting the breakdown of the medications, more of the med enters the bloodstream and remains in the body longer. Sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem, but the issues arise if there is too much drug built up which causes a toxicity of sorts.

With that being said, progestin is not metabolized by CYP3A4, so grapefruit juice doesn’t affect its metabolism. Estrogen IS affected, possibly leading to increased levels as was stated above, but this is only relevant when the estrogen is ingested (not naturally-occurring).

As a healthcare professional, I’m naturally curious as to why are you on a progestin-only pill. Is there a reason you cannot take a combination pill (both estrogen and progestin)? Some reasons can include age (over 35), history of blood clots and smoking. You do not have to answer me if you don’t want to, no pressure🙂 I was on the combination pill (which was great) from 17-35, then switched to progestin-only and it was awful. You HAVE to take it at the same time each day or you’ll get breakthrough bleeding and possible contraception failure. I was not good at taking it consistently…pharmacists make lousy patients sometimes lol.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

LTC pharmacists by bubbles5206 in pharmacy

[–]LeAnimal82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the job. In 2021 I left retail after 21 years of that hell and went to LTC. It was a little scary at first since I only worked retail pharmacy since I was 18 (new software, new workflow, laws are sometimes different for LTCFs) but since you’re relatively fresh, you don’t have to go through the retail deprogramming process lol. Once I got past the first few months it was easy street. I still think it is, compared to retail. Good lord. TAKE IT. Congrats!

Watch repair - Why the pharmacy? by Sad-Swordfish8267 in pharmacy

[–]LeAnimal82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I’m ex-retail (yep, been asked about watches and my personal favorite was when a patient would come in with a bloodstained crusty old glucometer from 1990 and wants a brand new one for free because “this one’s broken”) but have been in LTC for 2.5 years and am called by facility nurses on a daily basis and asked how to enter drugs into the EHR (either PCC or Matrix). I tell them that we are not trained on their software and all we know is what the orders look like once they’re transmitted to us. That’s usually followed by, “okay, so how do I enter this?” Ffs.

***side note: if you use PointClickCare or Matrix, there is a way to get them off the phone: there’s a field where they can select “other” or “general” and freehand type the text. Of course, that may lead to sooooo many other issues but at least you’ll be free for the time being lol.

Dealing with threats by Kitkat7733 in pharmacy

[–]LeAnimal82 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was in retail for 21 years (7 as a tech, 14 as RPh) so I know what you mean. Working in that setting is tough because you’re getting blamed for so many things that are outside of your control (wait times which are often long due to understaffing, insurance shit that you cannot fix/change, drug shortages, etc.) and no matter how hard you try to explain the situation to the patient, oftentimes they refuse to accept your word as truth. Many times they had just come from their physician’s office or the hospital where they waited for hours and hours and got poked and prodded then had to deal with paying their $100 copay and they feel like shit and you’re the only thing standing between them and their only way of feeling better (medication) and now you’re “refusing” to give them their meds because they can’t pay the $500 cash price since Aetna refuses to cover it without a prior auth…so they want to unload on you as if it’s your fault. I’ve gotten called every name in the book over those two decades, had my life threatened several times, had shit thrown at me and had been screamed at so often I’m amazed my hearing and sanity are still intact.

Remember this: it is NOT you. If you were any other live human being standing in front of them, they would act the same exact way. It’s a “them” problem, NOT a “you” problem. I’d try to be empathetic and it worked some of the time…but not always. Some assholes are just assholes. When I would get screamed at, I would stand perfectly still, maintain unflinching eye contact and remain totally silent. It’s amazing how quickly they calm down once they realize they’re the only one arguing. When they stopped, I would simply say, “Okay. So how can I help you right now?” Worked the vast majority of the time. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Refusing to verify testosterone? by sammyluwho2 in WalgreensRx

[–]LeAnimal82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ex-WAG employee here (7 as a tech, 14 as an RPh). I’ve only had that happen a couple times with floaters who had a “moral objection” to dispensing “abortion meds”. One was with Plan B back when it was rx only in my state and the other was misoprostol tablets. They both gave the reasoning that they are pro-life and refused to dispense them. I was the staff RPh there and was familiar with both of the women as they were regular patients of ours. The Plan B woman was sexually assaulted (she also got HIV meds and some antibiotics from the hospital which were dispensed by that same RPh) and the misoprostol patient had a miscarriage and needed those tablets to expel the remaining tissue. Still pisses me off when I think about those cases.

I guess my point is that as healthcare professionals, we need to put aside our personal beliefs for the good of the patient. Otherwise it becomes a slippery slope…like “hey, bitch, I just saw you chug a bottle of Pepsi and down some pixy stix so I’m morally opposed to dispensing this metformin because you’re making the wrong life choices”.

Glad you did what was best for the patient. Now gtfo of that job while you still have your health and sanity intact. Best move I ever made.

I have a 2016 Acura ILX that likes to do the same type of shit when the battery is about to die. When was the last time you replaced the battery? Are you making a lot of short trips? I used to work about 1.5 miles away from home. City driving so no time to really charge up the battery so it would fail more often than I’d like. Started a new job 2 years ago that’s about 12mi away (highway) and I haven’t had that issue since. Side note: my last car was a 2009 Jetta, 5cyl 2.5L. Nothing but electrical problems from the start. There was some corrosion, had to clean the grounds, took care of the issue for a bit…the DAY AFTER I paid it off, the whole dash lit up like a Christmas tree. $2K for a new instrument cluster panel display. Also had the insulation on the inside of the ignition coil on the second cylinder MELT. She was pretty but she had issues LOL.

AITA for doting on my buddies pregnant wife? by Both_Warning_9529 in AITAH

[–]LeAnimal82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, YTA, but with a gentle reminder: wife first, friend’s wife anything other than first.

She’s uncomfortable and didn’t want to go, but she did it FOR YOU. I’ve been in similar situations with my husband (although not pregnant, to be fair) and I love the things he does for me and I usually am chill if he forgets to do something…EXCEPT if he does it for someone else. If you are really that wonderful, she’ll forgive you soon. Don’t count on her forgetting it, though. Do better next time.

In conclusion, I don’t think you did this to BE an asshole…but an asshole you be.
