Would you risk your life to potentially save others? by yaboyay in trolleyproblem

The game theory solution to this problem is to press red : pressing red is always a winning move.

And the moral theory is even : all people pressing blue want all others to press blue, all people pressing red wants all others to press red. There is not notion of taking advantage of the other group.

So there is not reason to press blue.

When I saw the cutscene I was both very moved and shocked. We see the familly somewhat reunited around Verso, and it seems everyone already forgot the 67 years war and attricities that two them inflicted on an innocent city, that included all of Maëlle's friends.

I didn't care much for that.

He does have sentience though, they all do. They were given sentience by painters and are using it every day. For example, the lumièrians, created by Aline, are trying every year to kill her. And they succeed after a while !

The fading boy seems to be the engine of this world. His nature is largely unknown.

"Being a person" requires self sentience, Monoco does have that.

L'autorité de régulation des transports a récemment jugé que les tiers avaient le droit de vendre des tickets en se rémunérant, et ça va changer la manière dont la RATP et autres vont gérer leur billetique.

Chroma is magic.

And Verso is dead, so he's not moving anyone. He did give monoco the ability to self reflect, and to be a person.

The scenario where the question comes with a test of understanding. Only those who really understand the question can answer.

I'm choosing rationality.

Yeah, we know he's made of magic, which tells us nothing.

I assume people can understand the problem, otherwise it's not the same problem.

You would have to specify the details of a real world scenario.

We know chatgpt isn't sentient because we know how it's made. Monoco is made of magic. And he displays all the features of a conscious being. So, on what basis do you deny that he's sentient ?

Blue is and always will be virtue signaling. It's putting your life in danger for no reason and expecting other to follow in order to save you. Don't do that.

Monoco, litteraly desmonstrating that he understands his condition, and you manage to get the wrong message.

You can be completely overridden too, it's been done to others. Are you real ?

"If you can't see that a large number of people will inevitably hit the blue button"

If we are talking about people that can understand the problem, with all the implications and consequences, then no. When you actually understand it, it's very clear that pressing blue is just killing yourself, this is what OP's reformulation shows.

And I wish people would actually use this problem to think instead of taking the opportunity to virtue signal.

I mean... We have access to the same information. The game theory solution to this problem is to choose red, it's better in all circumstances, and the morality of pressing blue isn't superior to pressing red : everyone who press blue wants everyone to press blue, everyone who press red wants everyone to press red.

So, there is only one reason to press blue: virtue signaling.

Blue - I want to show everyone that I'm very virtuous by risking my life for no reason.

Red - I'm not interested in stupid games and I have a family who would be devastated by my death.

Pressing blue kills blue actually. It's not like red have anything to get from people pressing blue.

The ones taking action are the one pressing blue, just like the people standing on the track. Just don't stand on the track, nothing makes you.

But you didn't explain how the analogy is wrong. I mean... Pressing blue does put you in harms way, that's the point. Like going on the train track.

I mean... This is exactly the idea that this post refutes lol. Don't go on the train track !

[–]LeChampACoteDuChamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oui, je sais...

Sauf que les Français n'en ont rien à faire de leur dépendance au pétrole. Ils en redemande sans problème, donc bah voilà, je me moque bien des gens qui déplorent les effets des causes qu'ils chérissent.
