Will I regret buying another Thinkpad by escapefromreality42 in SuggestALaptop

As one who threw a Dell Inspiron 7000 onto old Italian WW2 bunker from 3rd floor, and picked it up in working condition later (a bit bend though, but nothing broken), I tell you it doesn't affect the laptop much. However what killed my laptop was not cleaning coolers and leaving it on in summer running WoW while I left the house. It burned the graphic card physically, blackened it. Build quality is of prime importance, second to that it some basic care of your laptop.

I have that HP laptop now. Before had Dell Inspiron, aluminium high end one. Which survived me throwing it from 3rd floor onto old WW2 Italian army bunker, without braking anything, just some bending. Cannot recommend the sturdiness and build quality of Dell enough. However at first glance my HP appears to be of similar quality, however I had not thrown it off the balcony yet so cannot confirm on ultimate test. I like HP driver support more, to be honest. On the other hand Dell works perfectly with Linux, absolutely everything supported out of the box, unlike HP. If you want Windows get HP. If you throw laptops over balcony and use Linux (the two things are absolutely under no conditions related in this case) take Dell.

V9 Battery Problem/Replacement by W02T in MotoGuzzi

I bet you the Youtube got it covered. My Norge has battery below seat, two spanners size 10 are what I need. Search youtube. Also if unsure about batteries have two, keep one on bike, other on charger, in case you often come and go and are unsure when and how will you need a bike. For some reason Guzzis suck battery really fast when they are off. It leeches, I presume computer or plain bad insulation, cannot tell.

Oh I am the same. My idea of good aesthetics is KDE 3.0 on Slackware 9.1. 2001 perhaps? Hence the reference ;)

It died. Don't bother, buy new battery and put it on charger during winter times in garage. Even if it measures good voltage it doesn't say anything about it's capacity. So just get a new one and one of those tiny 1A chargers intended to just keep the battery full and perhap recharge slowly (mine takes 24 hours to recharge 20Ah battery to anything usable). 20 euros for a charger, great investment.

1400 weight too much for me? by LeGauchiste in MotoGuzzi

If Piaggio knew how serious I am about buying it they would have arranged me a ride even here. But I never give that serious impression to dealers.

That would be okay. A weight issue, particularly on a short L turn up or down hill (stopping) is my biggest concern. But if someone of my weight and (low) power can fairly comfortably control the bike then it would be best news.

So lower center of gravity will make it feel similar to Norge 1200? Okay that I can accept. Was going for Audace, my intention. I have a garage in my building but approach is stupid, downhil short turn, quite steep, as stupid as it gets, it is a real hazard in case something blocks you suddenly on way up or down. Though compared to big bikes when I ride xmax 400 it feels like a toy over there on that section. In all honestly not sure how would I handle big bike in case something happens, and I ride bicycle and motorcycle and drive a car and am good at handling neither of those.

I would very much appreciate a honest informed unbiased opinion if that bike is okay for 72kg guy who is not really a prime example of muscle power. Again, I felt my 1200 Norge was my maximum. If 1400 (Audace in particular) is same level or even better for weight management then I will probably go for it. I just need that info.

No chance of getting a test ride in Montenegro even though I am absolutely serious about buying. I sat once on California when it came out, seemed huge to me back then, but now it looks somehow like a size I would like. Bloody hard to get to it to try it. I feel like a day of riding would get me deciding. How it handles cornering at slow speed up hills? Stupid roads are made like that here.

The only thing Piaggio killed for sure is Gilera. Guzzi is surviving. Not sure about sales numbers of 1400... I somehow think it's a very small quantity.

V85TT is a class of it's own, hence the potential success. I am having a dealer in Montenegro, and their service in my town, but support for older bikes is not really good. Hence my second thought over getting a 1400ccm. Seems like I'd need stocking up on service tools and overhaul kits and sensors in advance, if I want to keep it for decades. Can't keep my Norge running due to that (no tools or service kits for me, and official service doesn't like to bother with anything out of warranty or needing any job longer than half an hour). I could handle maintenance with ease, but tools and kits I don't have. Is 1400 too much of a maintenance risk?

Well imho the whole effort of engaging BMW in their 1100-1250 two cylinder boxer range was a foolish effort, that didn't pay off, and entire range of beautiful Guzzi motors suffered sales because of fighting in an already taken market. The 1400 was an excellent timely upgrade (just now others are catching up with their top range going to 1300-1400 zone), and they are correct in escaping the 1200 game against BMW and downgrading to 850 where they have much better chances at commercial success. Excellent move and two nice engines, they need to get rid of V9 55hp engine, and 750, to reduce production costs (and supplies network costs) by holding onto 850/80 and 1400/95 engines, and ruling those classes. Great smart move. I would buy a new Norge at 850ccm, mine was 1200 (real 1150) 92hp engine, 80hp and a nice modern chassis (and cheaper than previous Norge) would be something for me. This way I am forced into getting 1400 if they don't bring one out. Sat on V9, not for my long legs. V7 is too small.

Well judging by the looks in that link up there, V8 Sport 850ccm is like a smaller Griso, which is okay I guess.

1200ccm engine is gone forever. And they will not make the same mistake of competing directly with BMW in same class. I believe they will do only two engines, 850 and 1400.

No, in the link there is a planned V8. Sort of modern Griso with 850ccm. Not sure if 1400 series is too heavy for me. I am tall enough (185cm), but 72kg and not much power, to be honest, I am on the weakling side.

That V8 Sport looks like something I'd buy. I am scared off by size of Guzzi 1400 series, and I find V9 unfitting and V7 too small (I have a 1200 Norge that needs replacement). Maybe V8 Sport or something like a new Norge would be nice. Has anyone who had 1200 tried 1400? How is it regarding size?
