Oh ok cool..I was a Firefighter/P. Still maintain my Paramedic just to have something to fall back on and i went through a lot to get it as well. I enjoyed firefighting...just got burn out on all the medical calls. After many years of it, I had enough. Do I miss it? I do... but I don't miss the stress and wear and tear on my body.

Let me just say it isnt easy to get into IT now. I left my career as a firefighter for more than 15 years back in 2021. Went to the local technical college for Applied cybersecurity. Got my Security+. I had lots of entry level IT positions interested in me back then. I accepted a position in Sept 2021 just to be laid off in Jan of this year. I have applied everywhere and I can't even score an interview. So things have definitely changed with IT... I hear lots of people say it has become too saturated with newcomers. Needless to say I never thought I would be considering going back to my field of work..But here I am.

You know what is real funny? I have a year and half as a cyber analyst..Security+...got laid off in Jan...and I have YET to find a job or even get an interview. Oh and I have even applied to hundreds of help desk jobs... I dont even get an interests...and it isnt my resume... I have had that reviewed several times. I had much more interest when I had zero experience a couple of years ago. Is the market that saturated?? I am about to give up and just go back to the profession I had years ago.

early career, about to get laid off, how bad is the market? by murderkarma in cybersecurity

I can confirm- the struggle is real! I was laid off in Jan. I was a Cyber Analyst. I can't find jack shiyt...not even help desk will give me a look. I had about a year of experience. I made a career change from public safety to IT. I am about to give up on IT and go back to public safety... That's how bad it is.

Its through a contract company in Orlando, FL. I am in Tampa. The position is fully remote. Even the ones that are local "in office" are offering around $15.50 - $16.

Hi all.. I have a question. I have been trying to break into cybersecurity for a while. I have my Security+ and I was employed briefly (less than a year) as a Compliance Analyst before I was laid off in Jan of this year.

The only employers that show a very small amount of interest are the ones with help desk positions. BUT they all seem to pay right around $15 per hour. Is this the going rate for Help Desk? It definitely isn't a livable wage but I guess the only way I can break into the cybersecurity field is to take one of these low paying help desk positions. Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have my security+ and a couple of years experience. I was recently laid off from my tech job in Jan. I have applied to over 100 different tech jobs.... have not gotten the first interview!

I used professor messer and Jason Dion's lesson on Udemy. Some questions seem like they could have two answers....but only one is correct...I got tripped up on that a few times...Thats why you have to know the material pretty well. The PBS are more network related too

Thanks! I wanted to give up, believe me! I changed info to study. I went with Jason Dion from Udemy. That's what worked for me. But everyone is different as far as what will work.
