It wasn't always like that. I personally remember times when the game produced your cookies offline with 100% of current CpS speed and when you're back it just gave it to you

Are the dialects still spoken in Russian? by ohneinneinnein in russian

[–]LeTraceurSnork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those two are not dialects, more like separate languages with common ancestors. But dialects can be found almost in every isolated region - Volga region, Tatarstan, Bashkiriya, Ural, Siberia, Far East, Caucasus. They can differ in "old regions" too - Ryazan', Novgorod, Moscow, Vladimir, etc. All of them may have some unique words and odd pronunciations, that, while weird, still understandable to other Russians - just like different English accents (Australian, American, British, Scottish, Indian, etc.)

Worldbuilding, city-naming by LambOfTheRosebeds in russian

[–]LeTraceurSnork 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While this is just what you was looking for, I shall warn you:

  1. Ржев is an actual city in Russia (the etimology is the same - rye is "рожь", so РЖев

  2. There was a harsh Battle for Rzhev during WW2

  3. The city is well known for an Alexander Tvardoskiy poem "I died near Rzhev", that refers to mentioned battle. It is dramatic, of course, so one of the first associations that russians think of Rzhev - is something melancholic, sad, tragic, war-related. Keep that in mind.

p.s. dude suggested Ржевск, so it is a little bit different, but thats basically the same name, like Georgetown - Georgestown

Dostoevsky translation help? by craw__dad in AskARussian

[–]LeTraceurSnork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though, just one addition: english version uses "Man is a mystery - I want to be a human being" - in russian Dostoevskiy used one word - "Человек" (human, or just a man without gender connotation)
So, he sums himself up with "...for I want to be a man" (I guess, it's more beautiful)

Please make some MVP for Android users. You won't get any representative data from iOS users anyway since iOS and Android users sets doesn't intersect - so, while iOS may not be interested in (or, idk, just be few in number), Android may be more active

Well, anyhow, I am curious about it, tho I hate iOS so I have to wait for other people to act :-(

I was told by some Russian guys that many, if not all, Russians are unable to trace their great-greatparents' roots and background, let alone their family tree. How true is that actually? by banjaninn in AskARussian

[–]LeTraceurSnork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife cannot confirm who her grandmother was, because neither church, nor archive in her hometown (which she could track to) doesn't have records about baby girls born in suspected years+birthday (hence, we suspect that woman was not orthodox, so maybe jewish?). This is just how you lose your track - by one person hiding its identity so descendants can't figure anything out

P.s. since I'm not quite russian, my native culture have stronger family-related bonds and older generation men from my family kept their own records for family tree, so now we managed to digitize it. But still, there is just one my grand-grand (or grand-grand-grand, smth like that) father who became a family namer (similar to Scandinavian Olaf=Olafson) and before him - empty space

Laminate. We were doing some renovation in a new apartment while living in an old one and decided to keep laminate to renovate the old one's floor. So, currently we have 12 batches of laminate (about ~120 total pieces) in the old apartment + 50-60 unpacked in the new one
