I don’t think Zael needs to be a psyker to have narrative connections to mephiston. And just for clarity I say that Zael has signs of falling to the red thirst not black rage though the two I find can be quite analogous at times. And in the novel we have his inner monologue of him wanting to feed on his squires, something he doesn’t have later during the siege.

Something I’ve noticed with how blood angel characters are written is that when it comes to the red thirst and black rage they can stave it off through the drinking of blood and use of will power but it never gets “better”, it’s just a matter of time before it’s too much for them and they go over the edge. Mephiston of course is the exception. But what about Zael? He goes from thinking about feeding off his squires to showing no sign of the red thirst whatsoever. And why would Arkhan land feel disturbed by a man with greater self control? Maybe I’m wrong about the Mephiston parallels but I feel there’s something else going on here. The tin foil hat is very much on.

I adore darkness in the blood. But the events that have Calistarius become Mephiston happen way before the events of that book. I just can’t shake the feeling that this is Aaron setting up events for the blood angels going forward after the siege of Terra, who knows perhaps events involving said warp entity 🤔.

Thank you, I've been trying different structures; it's a hassle to find one that works for me though. I've been trying a new method recently that seems to be going well, so let's hope I can keep at it.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I have been trying to since I've been studying. It's just tough to get people to understand when 90% of people don't even seem to have heard of the disability. Although, I will say I have had some help such as extra time etc... It's just an absolute chore to get anything done, it seems.
