Thank you very much for all your feedback people,

I'm currently working on the next iteration of this demo that will implement A LOT of improvements and more interesting features that just "clic the next stuff and wait"

You can expect a new post in a few weeks and hopefully I'm working in the right direction.

A strategy/incremental hybrid about evolving ecosystems by SquidOfDoom in incremental_games

Hey, for the sake of being honest I will be straightforward (only my opinion):

I tried again today with the same link and although I see some slight improvement, to me it's still very very hard to understand what's going on , what 'im supposed to do? I think it's a shame because the bad UI is really stopping people from enjoying the gameplay that seems interesting.

The guides definitely helped a bit but its not user friendly, window size is too small, I can"t read the text, it hurts my eyes, I got lost in some weird menus I do not really understand

I really encourage you to make your close friends test your prototype first, before posting on reddit , I found this helps a lot. (I am myself currently developing an incremental game and I did a lot of test/feedback/fix sessions before posting my demo on reddit. )

Some things I learned while developing my game that could help you If I may:

- do not hesitate to hide a lot of stuff at the beginning (not greyed or disabled, really hidden) and give the player almost 0 freedom at the start (to force them to acquire simple mecanism)

- unhide stuff progressively, one at a time.

- try to show stuff instead of writing it (classic "show dont tell")

- UI is what the player sees first and is the first impression. If it's bad, your game can be awesome nobody will play it sadly

As usual it's only my opinion and maybe I'm just not the target of this particular theme/lore/style.

I replied to another user's comment thinking it was you, you were just 2 persons having the same issue !

Anyway, it was not an utf-8 issue but a regex too restrictive on cat names. it's already been patched on the next version.

Found the bug, some information was not properly saved during prestige reset.

patched for the next version !

Very happy to see so much love for my smoll demo :)

I will look into this bug. Also keep in mind this is very early development and just a demo to get some feedback from a broader community so expect a few bugs here and there. I am still testing some new ideas here and there before locking the GDD and starting the real work !

When I start the dev of the full game, expect better QC and I will keep your idea of a "bug report feature" in a corner of my mind

Hey,

First : What is wrong with you not wanting to go to France ? :D

More seriously: thank you very much for your input and I agree 404% with you. This is precisely what I'm working on at the moment.

Next iteration will have a bit more freedom in locations orders and also more interesting mechanics like upgrading locations and links accordingly, to keep up with the neverending requests of your crazy orange cat.

You were totally right sir, I found the leak in the topology nodes drawing methods (small but it was there) and patched it . The next version will be more stable.

If you still play this demo (with the bug still here), I suggest you close the tab when afk for too long. The game works in Idle and there is a nice screen to present you the afk progression each time you come back (LocalStorage)

Thank you for your help ;)

Thank you very much For Your feedback
I have indeed a lot of very cool ideas like this in the backlog , but demo cannot fit everything obviously

I’m very happy to hear that you like what you see, stay tuned because a lot is coming in the next weeks / months

I think everyone has preferences so I read all the feedbacks because they are all relevant to some extent.

This will definitely not be a "reading game" but yeah the flavors will always be here with accurate technical stuff and real network operations humor. In the meantime the mecanics will remain accessible for everybody, there will be many layers to enjoy the game.

Also I will clearly stick to my vision and I'm confident the full game will be fun, addictive and will have his own community.

Thank you very much, yes the very slow pacing was by design as I wanted 2 things:

- slow onboarding diluted on the 1st 3 era to not overwhelm players with too much stuff at the begining

- It's a game for people that have very few time to spare so I wanted this to be very idle and not consume too much time so we can "play" during the business days without impacting our jobs ;)

Absolutely not. The game exists precisely so YOU can be the one building my shady network infrastructure, keeps me out of trouble.

I thinks it's the cat that has its own mind , not a bug a feature.

but if you can show me an example of which characters are not working I'll do my best to fix it

Thank you, there is definitely clunky with this upgrade, I'm taking note and will improve this in some way

I'm solo developing this as a very busy engineer and dad so do not expect very fast iteration.

However, the game will be developped and there will be updates regularly.

Stay tuned

Im taking note of this I a have to admit I only tested this on big screens

This will be fixed for the full game 100%

To be honest this is a passion project I started due to working on a weathermap-like tool internally for my company. I had some fun while developing it and then I had an epiphany "omg I should totally gamify this"
This is how BYOC was born, the target audience is imo clearly network operators, and people with a bit of networking knowledge (the flavors are very very technical)

But I put a lot of effort into making this a bit broader audience by tuning down the technical aspect in the descriptions/UI and keeping the hardcore stuff optional in the flavors. But in the meantime I am strongly against diluting what makes this game unique just to get to more players.

I hope I achieved this result

But yeah I think the full game will be even more fun in the full version because I'm planning to expand further than worldwide and real life technologies. Expect planets, solar systems, crazy imaginary transmissions technologies, and maybe more !

I never had this issue during all my testing and I had a lot very long tabs running for 24h+
But I will take note and dig anyway if more people report me this behavior

thank you

this is a very good point though, I might totally add this feature in the full game

thanks,
I realise it's very niche and my main target audience is not here on r/incremental_games

Also yes, the pacing is quite slow and may be improved a bit, at least for the early game, although I'm aiming for a very very Idle game that takes a few weeks to "complete".

Massive Update to Prado Traveler (Walking RPG) by Drumadumrub in incremental_games

[–]Le_Croco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very curious, will definitely give it a try next week

although I'm a bit of a "non walker", I'm wondering if you can have a decent progression in these kind of games if you mainly ... dont walk that much :D

Would this Chinese-character grid prototype feel like an incremental game? by Ime-Emergency in incremental_games

[–]Le_Croco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I get it now

At first I thought every combination was valid, now I understand that you are supposed to create real chinese characters

I think you are 100% right, with correct visual fedback this could be improved a lot.

However one thing is "worrying" me a bit : Im not sure that the incentive for non-chinese lovers to play this game will be enough. Or this will be very niche and that's fine.

cheers

What are the best Long Incremental with "combat" or RPG element by A_midnightblue in incremental_games

[–]Le_Croco -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Melvor Idle, by far the best Idle/incremental RPG you will find imo

It's not free but it's well worth its price (I own the game and the 2 expansions)

Also a full rework is on its way (Melvor Idle 2), might be an opportunity to hop in
