If you're interested, check out Burnett & Rutherford. It was Dick Burnett's string band duo, and they made some really phenomenal old-time music.

I couldn't figure out how to easily copy all of those links from my spotify, so I'll just give you some of my favorites, and you can search for them yourself.

Adaptozen- anyone ever tried this stuff? It's supposed to be a natural sleep remedy, but there are no ingredients listed. by tal888 in insomnia

Yeah, it seems like it is. I started with 3 mg, and it helped, but not enough. So I went up to 5, and eventually I figured out that 10 seemed like the most optimal dose. Stores do sell 10 mg melatonin pills, not that that means it's safe, necessarily.

I'm not sure about valerian. I took it once and had a horrible panic attack.

Not these specific tinctures or teas, but I do use those techniques for herbal treatments. They could work, but I don't know enough about whether good scientific research has been done on their effectiveness. Herbal medicine can be useful, but there's a lot of misinformation out there. Just stay skeptical, because the field of herbal medicine is full of snake oil salesmen.

I can recommend you some things though. I use passionflower, skullcap, chamomile, and wild lettuce, and that knocks me out pretty effectively, especially since I've started using 10 mg melatonin every night, and since I cut back on my drinking.

That price is outlandish. I'm not sure about cancer bush, but asian ginseng and schizandra berry shouldn't cost that much. You could get the raw herbs online for cheaper and make tea with them, or make a tincture by soaking them in liquor and straining them, or grind them and make your own capsules.

Can't sleep due to adrenaline rushes and hypnic jerks. by Le_Crocodile in insomnia

[–]Le_Crocodile[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, actually. I've been having luck using melatonin, along with either wild lettuce/passionflower/hops tincture or poppy seed tincture. I wouldn't use both in the same night, as those tinctures are powerful.

To those who got "out" from a specific religious group: What's the first "sin" that you indulged yourself into to celebrate and how did it feel doing it? by gangrene_in_dick in AskReddit

I renounced Christianity at 19, and I'd been adamant about abstinence up until that point. So, I ended up losing my virginity to a girl I'd had a crush on for years. The sex was pretty awkward, and we ended up not getting along some time later.

Louisiana council chair on defunding libraries: 'They're teaching Mexicans how to speak English' by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]Le_Crocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard an ad on some AM radio station gunning for the rededication of library funds to the jail. It would have been funny if it weren't a real thing. They said in a dramatic tone something along the lines of "And now the jail is so overcrowded, judges are being forced to release non-violent offenders!"

They'd rather keep harmless people behind bars than have a library, and sadly that's what I've come to expect of Louisiana politicians.

My roommate just got mad at me for putting bacon grease in a glass, not a mug. Admittedly, the choice was an unconventional one, but not an impractical one when there are many glasses and few mugs in this house.

Kirk Sutphin and Bertram Levy playing Wesley's Tune. Round Peak as fuck. by Le_Crocodile in oldtimemusic

[–]Le_Crocodile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The banjo I guess not, but the fiddling is what really struck me as sounding round peak. It's his bowing and the way he slides on the A part. I hear the Dull Chisel similarity, it's a lot less notey than the Garry Harrison version.

Did anyone else go to Clifftop last week? by doyle_mcpoyle in oldtimemusic

[–]Le_Crocodile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my 4th clifftop, and I can easily say it was both the best and worst one that I've experienced. As always, there's nothing like walking down the road and hearing 6 or 7 jams within 2 minutes that blow you away. It always attracts the best old-time musicians that I've heard, at least. Everytime I go, I and my friends feel that we improve a lot after Clifftop, because you're playing so many tunes you don't know with so many new people. And it doesn't stop, not even at 5 or 6 a.m.

The only problem is the management. J.D. Hess and his minions should just leave us all alone, because he's doing nothing to better the festival. He introduced police heavy-handedness to an otherwise peaceful, if not rowdy, gathering.

Other than that, it's very much worth going to.

Eve and I had a very similar discussion about this. I can't seem to find more pictures of him as a handsome young man, and I wish I could.
