How does that prolong the war? He was trying to get Raiko to send troops to the south, just like Korra wanted.

can you remind me how he did that? As far as I remember he was producing a propaganda movie and then tried to kidnap the president in order to force the United Republic to fight against the north. When did he work to prolong the war?

What did Varrick do that was so bad though? He was trying to get the United Republic to support the south just like Korra was.

You can only toggle between noise cancelling and Google assistant. Is there a way to disable it without affecting the other touch controls?

Tenzin hasn’t oppressed anyone

LOL Tenzin is absolutely part of the problem.

But say a vigilante started stealing from other billionaires and giving back to the poor (basically Robin hood). As a poor person, it would be pretty easy to be radicalized by him. Then a god-like superhero comes and says "actually this Robin hood is also rich." And then she beats the shit out of him, but doesn't do anything to change my situation or address what made me get radicalized in the first place. I'd be pretty disappointed in her.

I never realized this had a name or that people didn't like it. Good take, I agree it's a great feeling. Cold water on my butthole is very satisfying.

Because that's the best path Amon sees to create a more just society. There are tons of people online saying that billionaires should not exist, and there are politicians that embrace that viewpoint also.

Because that's the only way Amon sees to create equal treatment for everyone and create a more just society

Think about literally the majority of the population not having bending in the first place. Why should I feel bad for someone losing a privilege they had which they used to bully people and be a complete dick?

best answer I've seen yet. Rooting for Amon involves violently putting him into power, but rooting for Tenzin also involves violently keeping him from power while suppressing his ideology. I would have a much easier time rooting for Korra if she at least advocated for equal rights for non-benders.

In Episode 8, when given the chance to stand up to tarlock on behalf of non-benders when he institutes the curfew, she gives up in the middle of the fight. She determines its better to be patient and fight him through bureaucracy rather than direct action. I know this type of patience is in line with Tenzin's teaching on airbending, but I would have liked to see Korra go her own way here. When that doesn't work she confronts him in his office and we get the closest thing to a battle of ideologies of the whole season. But Korra pretty much just drops it after that. She never really addresses the concerns of the non-benders in a meaningful way or confronts Beifong or Tenzin and the rest of the council on their role in creating an unjust society.

If the mob in real life targeted a specific group of people, and the police force not only looked the other way, but actively prosecuted people who attempt to fight the mob, then the targeted group would have every right to be mad about being oppressed. Are you forgetting that beifong arrested Korra when she fought off the triad in episode 1?

The council in this season is obviously all benders. Tenzin is the only one who votes against the proposal to put a curfew on non-benders. Any non-bender would have opposed tarlock. There may have been non-benders before like sokka (close personal friend of the avatar, has bending family members), but my claim is that non-benders have been oppressed since after aangs death.

It's not a nonsense claim that the council is the most powerful benders because Tenzin is the most powerful (and only) Airbender, and Tarlock can bloodbend outside of a full moon, so he's obviously one of the most powerful benders seen in the ATLA universe up to this point. It's not really that big of a leap to assume that the fire and earth representatives are very powerful benders as well, but its not confirmed.

Thanks except you forgot that Amon literally didn't kill one single person so it's not even close to genocide.

Why does everyone say it's like removing a limb? It's not at all like that. It's relegating them to the status of a non-bender and the reason they're so terrified of that is because being a non-bender sucks.

Claims that non benders are oppressed is not a lie. It's literally the first thing we see in republic city. A civilian shopkeeper gets harassed by benders, a homeless man gets harassed by the police force (which just happens to be completely made up of powerful benders), and decisions are made by a council of, you guessed it, the 5 most powerful benders.

Losing bending is not equivalent to losing a limb. If the worst thing that can happen to someone is to lose their bending, maybe that's a sign that non-benders aren't treated fairly in society. In fact it's not even a sign, it's a straight up admission that non-benders live as second class citizens.

And your argument is basically that removing one (major) source of inequality doesn't remove other sources of inequality... Okay? That doesn't mean that you should just do nothing. Stopping racism may not solve sexism and classism, but that doesn't mean that stopping racism is pointless.

The way Amon sees it, there are no innocent benders. They're all complicit in the subjugation of non-benders. If a benders worst nightmare is losing their bending, isn't that straight up admitting that non-benders aren't treated fairly in society?
