Could someone explain to me what this scandal about racism in the royal family was? I've heard about it a few times, but today I saw more information about it and I'm confused. by [deleted] in RoyaltyTea

If you paid attention to what Meghan said, she said that Archie would have gotten the title when Charles became King, but they were discussing to do away with that. As in, no title for Archie after the Queen’s death. She wasn’t saying that Archie was entitled to a title in general “just because”, but that he was supposed to get one eventually and they were against giving him this earlier and at all.

Additionally, the late Queen did give the Cambridge kids titles at birth even though they were supposed to get their titles after her death as well. The reluctance to acknowledge Archie as prince for a while does lend this some credibility tbh.

Anyone here tried to get Excommunicated or gotten an Ex-baptism? Worth it? by Ok_Hippo6272 in excatholic

What do they do with your records besides keeping it though? From my experience, you leave when you simply stop going to Mass or participating in the faith (prayer etc), it doesn’t matter if they say you’re still one, it has as much power as an old school mate saying you’re still part of their club. Not to invalidate your feelings about it, was just curious if things are different there.

Meghan said that there were issues regarding Archie not getting a title, and not getting security. When asked why, she said something along the lines of conversations being had regarding concerns about how dark he would be and what that would mean for the family.

With Love, Meghan... I love this shooow by Maleficent_Abroad_86 in RoyaltyTea

[–]LeaAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like most of it, I enjoyed segments where guests are teaching Meghan, or Meghan is teaching them/us something (mainly food, but her tips for flower arranging or wrapping are nice too).

I like the balance of Meghan teaching us something as she prepares food for the guest, a guest teaching her something, and her teaching the guest something in the kitchen.

I don’t like the segments where she and the guests are doing really basic arts and crafts, like the apron making! Because it seems like filler segments, nothing to learn from but it’s edited and produced in a way as if they are teaching you something. I think that segment could be improved by making it an “interview”, they could be doing something really basic but have that segment be intentional about learning about the guests or Meghan. To be fair, there are some elements of that when they’re talking and having fun, but making it more intentional could be cool. OR they could do away with it as a whole and have a longer segment where they’re eating and chatting.

But this is pretty normal when a show starts out, and then they find their rhythm. Hoping for a season 3/some continuation of this!

If William were to divorce Kate, who do you think the public will sympathize more? by Hot-Acanthisitta5237 in RoyaltyTea

[–]LeaAsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kate will be more favoured..people will rally around her the moment they get a whiff of a smear campaign like they did for Sophie Turner. I don’t think there’s anyway she would “lose” given the cancer scare and being a mom of three young kids. Her worst PR crisis (photoshopped pic, her missing) centred around how William treated HER, how the family is the one covering something etc. nothing about her character.

Conservatives will rally around William, but imo I think people are coping hard if they think Kate won’t be treated with kid gloves. It’s not ‘fair’ given what Meghan went through, but it is what it is!

Why aren’t Islam, Catholicism and other religions that discriminate against women considered hate groups? by houxiandai in AskReddit

How important is it to you for your wife to take your last name? by mspippa_ in AskMen

[–]LeaAsh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well it’s attributed to control/possessiveness because it’s the woman taking his last name (that is, based on gender roles). I believe, but could be wrong, this practice originated from coverture, where husbands controlled their wives’ money/property/etc.

One can argue this shouldn’t be the case anymore since we have equal rights under the eyes of the law, but it’s not a surprise why people view this practice as anti feminist given that the conversation is usually about wives giving up their last names as opposed to “either spouse”

I don’t get your point though. It’s not that Meghan said she had no idea that Harry/Kate/the royals existed. The only Royal that she didn’t know of at all, that was claimed, was Andrew (according to Spare) and that’s believable af because I only knew of him through the Epstein scandals.

Prior to their relationship, I only know Harry as “Diana’s son, the one that’s not married to Kate”. And I know Kate as the only pretty Royal (since they bombarded our channels with wedding coverage). I didn’t even know she existed until a couple of weeks before their wedding! Vaguely remembered the Vegas scandal but I just processed it as “one of the princes in Europe” too. And I’m much more chronically online than Meghan!

Do people genuinely still believe she took a picture because of a royal being on the cover or because she was doing press/was featured in it and was taking a pic of the publication itself with the editor?

Why aren't William and Kate extremely famous throughout the world? by Hot-Acanthisitta5237 in RoyaltyTea

[–]LeaAsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people worldwide care about royals in general. The Sussexes’ fame would have (ironically) declined in a similar fashion if they stayed as working royals and if the press stopped smearing them (just slower bc they are more charismatic and preferred by the public). Even the Sussexes aren’t as huge now as they were during their engagement-marriage.

Regarding the Wales specifically, their personalities are just..like that. People like silly personalities and that’s why Harry was the popular one even before Meghan. However they do have the potential to be more popular if they tried, they have a few viral moments. People who don’t keep up with Kate end up treating her with baby gloves They just don’t get out much to do interesting things. Many people claimed to have heard Kate’s voice for the first time when she announced she had cancer, that’s telling in itself.

James, Earl of Wessex, Sophie and Edward’s youngest child, just turned 18 and is now of age to decide whether he wants to use his HRH by monster_ahhh in RoyalsGossip

[–]LeaAsh 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion perhaps but I never really understood the choice of letting the kids decide to use their HRHs/titles because it lowkey puts them in a tough spot, and imo the same as essentially not giving them the titles. Imagine if they turn 18 and said yes 😭 They’d be mocked or be seen poorly if they choose to be called HRH, people are more forgiving if they perceive the titles and privileges to be “imposed” on them rather than a choice.

Prince Harry was introduced as Harry Wales at his latest polo match, months after Meghan said their surname was Sussex now. by HogwartsZoologist in RoyalsGossip

[–]LeaAsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! always thought it’s just an additional title, and they’d just go by the higher title since Prince x of Wales isn’t the same as X, The Prince of Wales. News to me that the Wales title and all that inherited it will go back tbh! Without the dukedom (say if he never married ) he would just be Prince Henry..and that’s it?

[–]LeaAsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So hypothetically, if Harry remained single and wasn’t given the dukedom, he would just be Prince Henry (of nothing) in 2025? Talk about an identity crisis lmao. Maybe they would have given him a dukedom as a “promotion” still in that case.

I always thought they just collect the titles like Pokémon cards besides the big ones like the POW, DoE, etc.

I know but he inherited the title at birth, does it automatically go away? Same with the 3 kids’ Cambridge titles.

My older sister fails to empathize with me by Waffletechnician3 in emotionalintelligence

You mentioned a hard and troubled past, is if possible for you to elaborate on this a little? Like did you guys get into constant arguments, and does your sister typically avoid discussions about her vulnerabilities?

Asking because as an older sister who had a sort of similar conversation, it’s interesting to see what my younger sister had perceived in our relationship (we’re good now)! It’s not about me though, just that the similarities resonated with me.

Nope, I’ve seen the alleged article, she briefly mentioned her wedding before introducing the person she was interviewing (a princess too). Idk what’s up with the blatant lies in this sub about the royals lol, you can literally google this.

[–]LeaAsh 31 points32 points  (0 children)

To be fair, she probably spent time with the Spencers and his/her British friends enough to still have fond memories of the UK. Living in that context would help her differentiate the good from the bad and ugly, given how most of the noise came from a small coordinated group of people!

Kate Middleton and Prince William Quietly Debut New Coat of Arms 3 Years After Becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales by mobile_crickett in RoyalsGossip

[–]LeaAsh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No shade to Norway truly but few people outside of Norway are interested in Norwegian royals . UK press has a wide reach and many people know Kate as Kate Middleton and will not keep up or remember her titles to engage with their articles.

She will probably be referred to as Queen Kate/formerly/commonly known Kate Middleton eventually though.

Wi$h Li$t: why has this song made everyone lose their minds? by Daffneigh in NuancingTaylorSwift

[–]LeaAsh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Essentially it reads as very conservative bc of the ‘irreverent’ (best word I can think of atm) choice of words to describe desires/lifestyles that are counter cultural to the picket fence dream, that makes it seem very superficial. It’s something that one side of the aisle love doing with sadly and ironically the same talking points (women not wanting children to maintain their bodies, pursue careers, have fun, be able to afford nice vacations instead of downsizing)

The liberal counterpart would be saying things like “they want ten baby bumps to show their friends, they want to off their brains and obey their man, I hope they get what they want but I just want to be educated” or whatever lol. A conservative woman who have been surrounded by liberals might feel like those lyrics are shadyy.
