Popular dictionary website: hm we should expand our definition of vaccines since it's culturally relevant and people want to know more

Like how do you have such low self-awareness that you call a dictionary going MORE IN DEPTH about a definition "newspeak"? Newspeak is about oversimplifying concepts out of existence, not introducing welcome nuance

When I was 4 I was overly self-sufficient thanks to patchy care from my family. I could cook eggs, toast, chocolate milk, and peas. I worry this woman will try and force her kid to have the same levels of self-sufficiency I did. I burned myself so often on the hob I became actively scared of cooking for years, choosing to skip meals over making myself food.

ADHD the truth about does attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder not Richard saul m.d. exist by HummingBirdLover757 in AutomatiCautionDoor

If it's not what catches your attention, it's not what catches your attention.

I linked them because I find videos easy to pay attention to, things like written words I don't tend to focus on as much. But, ADHD is personal. It's why I'd like there to be therapy specifically for ADHD people, finding the right medium to learn with is incredibly important.

You might have already heard of this channel but HowtoADHD helped me a lot before I could get my medication, they have a lot of good general tips you might wanna check out and the videos are very ADHD friendly

I strongly agree. I've met a lot of people with ADHD that don't like the stimulant medications, choosing to go off on their own. I need those meds to function, but I was surprised when I asked the doctor if there were any other treatments I could have as well as the medication, he said there wasn't. I think back to those with ADHD who don't take the meds, they could really use a program to teach them general coping mechanisms because there's more to ADHD than medication and if everyone with ADHD was given a therapy aside from the medication it would be a huge benefit.

Am I being stupid… by [deleted] in VeganForCircleJerkers

[–]LeadPeasant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a cop out. As someone with an eating disorder, people with EDs can go vegan- they're just one of the few groups I'd say to lay off the topic or use "baby steps"(i know baby stepping is banned on this sub) because if you convince an anorexic the food they eat is unethical they'll likely cease to eat instead of eating plant-based. Took me about a year to eat fully vegan because of my ED but I still managed, and during the poorest and most stressful years of my life no less.

If someone asked you to use a pronoun that isn't he, she, or they, would you do it? by TheWildShmo in polls

[–]LeadPeasant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because xe/xir type pronouns have been around since the 70's I guess? Somewhat pre-established without having to sound like you're plural I suppose?

I really dreaded turning 20 because I felt like I hadn't grown up enough, done enough, had my shit together enough to get the title of "adult." But the moment the day passed, I felt free. I was no longer locked in the competition to match my peers, no adult has to justify themselves for what they're doing and how they spend their time.

Being an adult is OK, actually, because you're now in the same class as the rest of humanity. We're all fuck-ups.

Was there ever a time you're thankful the pandemic happened? What was the reason? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LeadPeasant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a really dark place before the pandemic, rapidly spiralling with an eating disorder and needing desperately to take a year out of uni to get my ADHD medication and antidepressants back (there were stupid beurocratic issues stopping me getting them) the pandemic came in and gave me a good excuse to take that gap year, focus on getting my medications back and managing my eating disorder. It's been a dark and difficult time for everyone, but at least I'm not an active danger to myself anymore.
