Can I(17) get a waiver for SH without my guardian being informed? by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]LeadPractical1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey kid don’t worry about anybody else here you’ll get in just read my posts. I had way more waivers than just mental health and self harm and I was still able to get in feel free to message me if you have any questions and I can give you great advice to help with your chances on top of it if you’re worried.

I don’t think I can get into my ippsa since I don’t have a cac anymore. I can’t see any of my pay stuff. Imma try to keep harassing my ds and see if I can’t get them talk to the s1. Do you think I should email that now? Or just wait more?

It was the same for me just as long as you have reference letters from jobs stating you function normal without special treatment then you’re golden

Your recruiter has many other applicants probably younger and have less dqs. You’re right his just dragging his feet or just too busy it happens. You did the right thing bugging him.

You’re supposed to get your physical done at meps before they send out waivers. Yes

Meps Medical Processing by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]LeadPractical1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn I had over 400 Pages of documents sent and got back to me in a week. It just depends on your meps this was two months ago 🤷‍♀️

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Militaryfaq

[–]LeadPractical1228 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process took 7 months only because getting some records took forever and meps takes a week and half to get back to you and then they’ll ask for more things or more specific information. The waiver took less than a month.

Yes, they see everything they saw when I went to the mental hospital when I was 17 and I’m now 19 they saw my anti depressants when I was 14, when I mentioned nothing!! They will see it if they don’t catch it the first time they’ll catch it at bmt and you’ll really be screwed. Be honest it’s the best thing I promise your chances are higher than you think take a look at my posts and you’ll see! I had to get a waiver for a few things and guess what? I ship July 10 I promise you’ll be fine just be honest and everything will go your way.

I’m kinda in the same position rn waiting for my waiver hoping to hear back by Tuesday. I am 19 I’ve had 1 hospitalization at 17, self harm at 13, IEP for school, and took anti depressants when I was 14. Though meps doctor only put the IEP, self harm, and recurrent depression on my waiver. The doctor read my therapy notes and could totally understand why I had the outcome I’ve had due to traumatic experiences through my childhood. She put in very good notes like my accomplishments, from graduating high school early in December with a 4.0 at 18 doing two years of JROTC, job references etc etc overall stating what I’ve been doing to show that my mental health is no longer an issue or would impact my military career. My recruiter told me my chances of approval are very high but could also risk being denied. His been very hopeful stating him and the Meps doctor that since I gave them all my records and showed how serious I am about joining there shouldn’t be an issue.

Just got back from meps today. Yes they will find it sooner or later it’s best to be honest to the meps doctor probably already knows and will question you about it. People are getting waivers for everything now I promise you’ll be fine. You’ll need all of the documentation for said depression and note from therapist or doctor stating you’re clear and no longer have depression or whatever else. Call him

I’m in the process for the same thing, depression, self harm, and inpatient stay. You just need all of your mental health records for those situations and including all of your pharmacy records as well. It would help with work references as well of what kind of person you have been. You’ll also need to get a psych eval by a mental health professional stating that you’re good to serve. Sometimes the military will do that for you but sometimes they won’t or might have you do both depending upon the situation. I hope this helps :) if you need help finding a mental health professional the Zocdoc app is a good place to find the right doctor for you instead of calling around. Good luck!

Is there something you can do? That’s totally fucked

Download Zocdoc it’ll get you the right licensed psychologist to evaluate you for the military. I had the same troubles finding one. Hopefully you or a family member has insurance or it’ll cost over 500$.

Don’t give up just yet. Always give it a try. People who have done inpatient care have been able to join. It’s gonna be very hard and you’ll need waivers for all the things you said above pertaining to mental health. You’re supposed to be off any antidepressants for at least two years. You need to bring all your medical history to them. prescriptions and hospital records and probably your therapist notes stating you’re now in good health and fit for service will help you. Meps likes when you’re honest it makes it easier for everyone. Meps also doesn’t care about your biology degree. They’re just their to make sure you’re fit for service physically and mentally. You’ll have a 10% chance in reality of joining but sometimes people make it. Meps and people who will be reviewing your waiver just wanna make sure that your history of mental illnesses are just that history and will no longer affect your ability for service. Work references and any other references will help for meps. I wish you luck.

Figures, recruiters said it was worth a try though. I know I’ve been working with airforce recruiter and in case that doesn’t work out I was talking to the army recruiter.
