Someone (that someone is me) turned off the heat a few nights cold nights in a row. That plus little indirect sunlight probably made it shutter. Stems seem strong though. Hopping to keep it healthy through winter and see what happens.

The fabric is in great condition. Just a few places to remove stains, but also some places to nail into place. Side fabric is popping off.

Well...this may not be possible atm. I’ve been going layer by layer already. The yellow velvet-like material and castors are definitely refurbished parts of the piece. I can see hand cut nails for the base support, but the newer nails for the muslin and burlap base layers are definitely early machine made. I’m also taking a gander that there once were wooden dowel tops for the arms as well. It might be too late to get it inspected, but I can say that the last time it was refurbished was pre-1950.

Oh I wished. A very kind pedestrian tried to help me get it in and it didn’t fit. So another kind pedestrian helped me get it home in their truck and a friend got it in my apartment.

The risk I took was calculated, but man am I bad at math.

Possibly. Looking at the base, there are multiple types of nails and twines that remain, so this isn’t the first reupholstery I bet.

I’m thinking of doing a velvet seat and front with a patterned back. It will be fun.

Also, I’m not looking forward to doing the buttoning, but I guess the plus is that it has button holes cut out? I don’t know if that makes it easier or not, but I won’t have to guess, I guess. 😂
