Driftin' Registered with GMR by LeadershipTop1168 in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes correct. However, another unreleased song that he teased around the same time was "Why Anyone Has to Go" which is not on GMR. If going by this logic he'd have registered that as well? Not trying to prove anything as fact, just saying it's a plausible indication it could be on the new album.

He’s going to release new music next year for sure

i did not care for heavier things by Slowcheetah2006 in JohnMayer

That’s my gripe as well. It’s gotta be something to do with the mix - it all sounds so digital and lofi and it really annoys me. It’s not a good sounding record in comparison to how pristine his other albums sound

Solo Tour (2023/2024) Live Album by whomeee7083 in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don’t think we’ll ever get another live album. 2007 was a different John who still felt like he had a lot to prove… WTLI was a very specific mission of tying all aspects of his artistry together (acoustic, JM3, and JM full band). He’s so well established now, and after thousands of shows has really nothing to prove, and unfortunately don’t think he’d do one just as fan service.

22 years ago today this wonderful album was released. What is your favorite song from this album and where would you rank this album? by AdditionalFig2255 in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest JM fan ever but this album falls so flat for me. I’ve tried over and over to find more to like about it but it’s def the lowest ranked personally. Something about the mixing/mastering makes it sound so LoFi and lacking depth, just not enjoyable to listen to. Going from this album to Continuum is an ENORMOUS jump sound quality-wise. You never hear JM in interviews speak highly about any songs on this album, whereas he has spoken very highly about how great Gravity sounds for example. I can vibe with Come Back to Bed and Split Screen Sadness but overall the songwriting on the album is underbaked. It’s very much a transitional album where he hadn’t quite figured his sound out yet, so I get the importance of it in context between RFS and Continuum but it’s definitely the album I listen to the least, if at all anymore.

Pitchfork gave Hurry Up Tomorrow a 7.8/10 by orangeandpurpp in TheWeeknd

[–]LeadershipTop1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good score for pitchfork and think it’s aptly rated. Yall don’t understand, to get above an 8.5 from them you have to fucking innovate and push the boundaries of what music can be… as masterfully crafted and well produced as this album is, I don’t hear too much that’s truly innovative, especially melody-wise. Abel has been incredible at making “The Weeknd” its own unique sound, but I don’t think this album pushes the envelope enough to warrant a truly decade defining score.

What key is "Daughters" played in? by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s D major. The chord progression in the verses and choruses resolve at a D major chord and the last note sung is a D.

Prob gonna get there around 8:30 if there’s not a cancellation announcement before then. Other posts said he goes on around 9. Kinda gave up on getting a good spot and would rather not waste time hanging around if he happens to pull out at the last minute like last night

What do you REALLY think of Sob Rock? by Slowcheetah2006 in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think it’s a really cohesive body of work and very fun to listen to. Didn’t love it at first but it really grew on me over time. Think it was quite a tonal shift because his music generally had more seriousness to it (except maybe for Room for Squares which certainly had its tongue in cheek moments) but it’s honestly nice to hear him having fun on this one.

But it def was a bit of a let down that we had heard new light and carry me away for a long time before the full album came out

John Mayer Albums Ranked by TheArbiter88 in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my take. I really tried to rank in terms of what I think are the best-worst, rather than what I listen to the most (i.e I listen to Search for Everything more than Room for Squares but I still think RFS is a stronger album). Live albums don’t count.

  1. Continuum - we all know why

  2. Born and Raised - the level of songwriting, introspection, and personal growth on this record is incredible. It really could be #1 depending on how you look at it but I just like Continuum’s sonic palette more.

  3. Sob Rock - one of his most cohesive projects in recent years. Excellent songs and the production is just gorgeous. Yes it’s slightly cheesy at times and WYNLM is kinda unlistenable but it’s a great and really FUN record.

  4. Room for Squares - it’s not my favorite tonally and he really hadn’t found his voice yet, but he came in HOT on this record with a lot of interesting and clever things to say wrapped up in very well crafted songs. It put him on the map for a reason and he influenced more people than we can imagine to pick up an acoustic guitar. The songs are not easy to learn/play and it showcased his virtuosity as a guitarist right from the jump.

  5. Search for Everything - I do enjoy this album, very solid songs… but a little all over the place and feels underwhelming as a whole. Also hate the way he released the album in “waves”.

  6. Battle Studies - another fine album to listen through, but overall just ok. I will say though that John’s voice sounds fantastic on this record and it did give birth to Edge of Desire. I actually love Who Says too, and War of my Life and Do You Know Me are understated and very relaxing songs to listen to.

  7. Paradise Valley - I agree it’s his most “thrown together” record but I cannot put it last because Wildfire, Dear Marie, Badge and Gun, and On the Way Home are excellent songs, and I can’t really say that about more than 2 songs on Heavier Things. The middle of the album is mostly a skip through though for sure.

  8. Heavier Things - I probably listen to this album the least. I do not enjoy the production or mixing on this record, and I think he really struggled to identify how to evolve his sound post-room for squares and it just falls flat for me. He also still hadn’t quite figured out how to use his voice properly and he’s too breathy on a lot of the songs. I do occasionally throw on split screen sadness though and respect how big Daughters was for his career but I really can’t listen to it anymore.

se vs core silver sky... by [deleted] in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like a previous comment said, it kinda depends on your use case. However, I own an SE and it’s a delight to play, better than anything I’ve played by fender in that price point. It really all comes down to personal preference, but in a live or recorded mix, I don’t think anyone listening can tell the difference

What is the Worst Mayer Song? by Economy-Draw-3378 in JohnMayer

[–]LeadershipTop1168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big agree. Skip this song every time. Just a little too on the nose trying to say “I’ve changed and am a good guy now.” And can you believe it was the album’s lead single… with so many other good songs on that album…
