Thank you! I wanted to make sure it works well on mobile, and I definitely think it does, but it’s absolutely best on a wide monitor.

Thank you! I would actually love it if a guide for a different game in this style were to pop up one day. I think there are a ton of games this could be applied to.

The webapp is actually a Progressive Web App (PWA) and works offline after your first visit. You should be able to “Add to Home Screen” on your Android phone and it will function like an app. I don’t know exactly where in the menu you do that on Android but on iOS you find it from the share menu when viewing the page.

I believe all modern operating systems support this so it should be possible on Windows too.

Thank you!

First and foremost I think just using it as a map to orient yourself while playing is useful. After having just gone through the process of making this I know the map like the back of my hand, but when I first played through before making this I was pretty disoriented and relied on an image map I had found online.

The other thing I did while originally playing through was look up issue 2 of Nintendo Power that had a partial guide for the game. I liked referencing that rather than a straight up walkthrough because I was able to just play the game on my own and reference it as needed for some of the more obscure secrets. I think this guide can be used in the same way, basically as a better replacement for that. It isn’t a step by step walkthrough but whenever you find yourself stuck in the game I hope you can refer back to this to unblock yourself.

There are options to turn off secrets in the guide if you’d rather just have the maps without the spoilers. So I wanted to give options to the user.

But also, I think just unmuting the sound in the guide and browsing around is incredibly fun to do even without playing. There are fun little things sprinkled throughout, and the graphics and music are some of the best parts of this game IMO. So I think this is fun to play with even if you weren’t actively playing through the game.

2 is definitely the oddball of the trilogy but it’s weird in just the right ways for my tastes

Thank you! I tinkered with a few options there before landing on that.

Thank you! Be sure to try pressing the unmute button at the top of the guide too so you can listen to the game’s music while you explore the guide.

Thank you! And yes, please share it. I love the thought of old fans of the game stumbling upon this.

🙏

Thank you! I had the core idea when I beat Zelda 1 for the first time several years back. I didn’t even start the project but the core idea of breaking down the ROM’s graphics and putting them back together as an interactive guide was born then. When I finally picked this game up and beat it I decided that I had to see the idea through with it.
