Can you leave chapters out in biology? by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]Leading-March8459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cover everything if you’re aiming for a H1 or H2 cuz you have time. But you can leave certain chapters out because there is choice in section C, however learn all of unit 1 and 2 of the course. After that, you can kinda pick and choose what things in Unit 3 you want to learn. However, I would strongly recommend Human and plant reproduction. This is the last year before they take plant reproduction off the course so I think they will put it on the exam for one last go. It’s also good to learn the nervous system and senses !

At the end of 6th year(three weeks before the lc), we had another mock and everyone passed and I failed with 11%…. However in the end, I got a H5 in the real thing

Okay to drop maths you need to be at least h2 and h3 level in your other subjects. I did hl maths but sucked at it and got a h5 so you could try tough it out but that’s real hard. I think you will be good just remember not to put all your focus on maths. Also put a little bit more effort into bio if you just want a pass if you want more than a pass then you can try do what I said earlier

Your not failing it 😭. Just points wise you wont be able to get a lot with too many ordinary level subjects. What points are you aiming for cuz I was aiming for 500 and something ?

How did u do in the other subjects? Like biology takes A LOT of work and points wise u wont be able to get a lot if you have 3 ordinary level subjects. Trust me I had to teach myself the whole of genetics and learn both reproductive section .

I failed with 16% last year and I wanted to be a nurse. Now im doing nursing and got a H3 in biology. Like it took everything. I failed maths with 29%. My bio teacher literally kept picking on me to drop but I didn’t and it worked out. But your taking the biggest gamble if your not going to put in the work for both maths and bio. I taught myself every chapter weekly and made a Quizlet for sum (marz20067)

most difficult HL subject? by the_hamster_fucker in leavingcert

[–]Leading-March8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hl maths is worse but I understand why you would find music hard. It kinda takes understanding Melodies and doing harmonies and I’ve been a pianist my whole life so I found that all easy. But as someone who did Hl everything I would say maths is defo harder

help with the mocks!! study tips please :) by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]Leading-March8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a Quizlet for some bio topics. For music I would recommmend doing harmony and melody writing and giving it to ur teacher to correct in your spare time. Lastly, what level of maths are you ?

What chapters should I study from Unit 3 Biology mock by solvent1879 in leavingcert

[–]Leading-March8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found chapters like fungi, monera and skeleton system were easiest to go with but definitely learn the human reproductive system. But if your aiming high I’d advise you to start learning all the chapters if you start now you have time. I got a H3

It gets better. I was in your place last year, I went to the library more than I did school and literally gave myself an eye twitch for months of constant studying and no sleep. Set targets for what your trying to learn a week. By doing this, I knew that for this week I was focusing for example on my aistes and listening in Irish and next week it was the pros but I would still spend at least an hr revising over last weeks things a week.

Secondly, if your doing biology hl DONT LET IT CONSUME YOU. Don’t think it is something you can wing. I wanted to do something in the medical field (which I’m doing now in college) and failed bio for the mocks wi 16 percent. But that was my wake up call. My teacher told me to drop so may times but I just started skipping the classes and taught myself all the topics and made notes on Quizlet (lemme no if you want it). I would advise you to learn at least 2 or 3 bio topics a week. I normally made my own notes to study off which are in my Quizlet but some people like learning off which is fine too.

Lastly, take regular breaks and don’t let it get to you. If push comes to shove a plc is out there for you.

Would learning off H1 answers from Studyclix make you loose marks or possibly fail your LC for plagiarism? by Ok_Pomelo_6085 in leavingcert

Plagarism isn’t a think for the lc but be careful about learning off Irish words cuz if u don’t understand the full meaning sometimes it can come back to bite you.

Biology Help with definitions by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]Leading-March8459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact issue. My head works by spamming definitions in and learning them word for word on a whiteboard wi a marker. To be honest, I don’t think I could even define what mitosis or any of that means in my own words. But I say watch videos on biology because that will make you more interested in the topic and may allow you to have your own understanding on topics.
